The "create poll" button is to the left of the "post new" button, so if you hit that one by mistake, you write your post, then you get told that you have to enter options for the poll.

If it's your first time, you get frustrated, and just write something random in there.

I've hit the "create poll" button by mistake, and if you're focusing on the text box, then yeah, you can miss all those poll options above. No, I never made a poll like that, but I can see how it would happen.
