DTOXX 0 #1 December 13, 2004 I received this email today. DT, As discussed after the conf call, we are working on arrangements to host you in Qatar for approx 2 weeks in early February to work with us on a Qatar version of the software. This is pretty much firm and am awaiting final confirmation from the functional people in this area. Please let me know if early February still sounds feasible as far as you are concerned ? Regards, Salim For those who do not know where Qatar is located here is a map. Its the little numb sticking into the Persian Gulf... ------- D.T. mouth 0 #2 December 13, 2004 Ask them to look into moving the meeting to a more desirable location. Hawaii will work! -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
pilotdave 0 #3 December 13, 2004 Saw a show about Qatar on TV a while back. It looks like an awesome place to live. VERY wealthy country (oil money). Great healthcare, free education (US and european universities have opened campuses there), etc. The women no longer have to keep their faces covered... and from what I saw on TV, that's a very good thing. Maybe they only showed the pretty ones, but I was impressed. But I think you'll find that it's very modern and probably a very nice place. I just remember after seeing it on TV that I was ready to move there. Dave
DTOXX 0 #4 December 14, 2004 Its got worse as the day went on... Background: I have written a peice of software for my company that we use at our local site in California. The company is in truth a large oil company with locations world wide and now some of these locations are interested in using our system. I was asked to provide a demonstration of the system using a video conference together with an online desktop sharing application. (we used WebEx) Well now it looks like the sites in Qatar, Ecuador, United Arab Emirates, and (shudder) Long Beach want it... ------- D.T. skytash 0 #6 December 14, 2004 Qatar is also not far from Um Al-Quain, one of the Emirates where there is a DZ, although I don't know whether its operational all year. tashDon't ever save anything for a special occasion. DTOXX 0 #7 December 15, 2004 Well I am in it now. Jan. 10th, fly to Ecuador for two weeks. Three LANs seperated by 300 miles of jungle. Each network is connected with a 2 meg microwave relay. I.T. request that the WAN be impacted as little as possible. Feb. 4th, fly to Qatar for two weeks. Single LAN with remote communications center that (and get this) "should" have TCP/IP up and running by then. While in Qatar finalize installation schedule with United Arab Emirates office for some time in March or April. And to top it ALL OFF, Long Beach California wants theirs in first quarter of the year. At least I get to pick my schedule... The only upside, if there is one, is that if Business Class is full I get to fly 1st class. ------- D.T.
