flyangel2 2 #76 December 15, 2004 What was that saying April has? Oh yea I remember, "The only drama I enjoy is the drama I create."May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
Unstable 9 #77 December 15, 2004 Ya know, I've been reading this thread over and over again for the past three days trying to figure out why I feel the way I do about this. Look Everybody, I don't Drink, and quite often I'm not comfortable being around when people are absolutly smashed. Tantalum, I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, and PLEASE correct me if I am. What is the issue here? We are all skydivers, and whether or not we party every night after jumping, we still belong to this big Brotherhood/Sisterhood. I have never seen a person (myself included) excluded from things because he or she does not stick around for hours after the day is done. I think the issue here is where our priorities are. Quote I recently moved from one DZ to another partly for this very reason. I love to party, but I love to skydive even more, and I got real tired of having to wait until 10:30 every morning for all the drunks to get out of bed before we could put a load together. For some, Skydiving is a way of life that MAY include drinking to where a hangover results. This is Type A. For others, Skydiving is a way of life that includes catching the early bird and getting what one expects from a full day at the DZ. Type B. For most of us, Skydiving is a way of life without many bounds, and is probably a Happy mix of A & B. This is type C. I'm irritated as hell when we don't open up EXACTLY on time, especially if alcohol was involved the night before. If I had my way, early bird would be at 7:30 sharp, but this is never going to happen because the "invisible hand" of dropzone time economics gives us a comprimise most efficient to the community as a whole. Kinda cool how the whole thing works, eh? Do I Look down on these other Skydivers? No! They are just going about their business with their own approach to this sport and getting what they want from it. More power to them!! Canuck made the comment that Quote The two do go hand in hand, and that's a good thing, but in the end if the skydiving isn't coming out on top, then it's time to sell your gear and go hang out in a bar. Which I disagree with - Just because this is an individual's way of comprimising what is important to them in life. Like everything else in this world, you Get out of Skydiving what you put into it. You get out of Partying and drinking what you put into it. Just set your priorities and get your ass hauling on whatever it is. As for myself, I'll be at the Dropzone packing rigs at 5:00 Saturday morning, getting shop set up and ready to turn as many loads as we can. This post has been edited for gramatical purposes only.
