kai2k1 0 #1 December 16, 2004 Sitting here staring at my beefy man tits just isnt doing it for me anymore. So I'm thinking of joining the gym by my house to get back into some form of shape. Is there a "bad" time to join the gym. With New Years just around the corner and all the people that make that their new years resolution I don't want to make a mistake by starting a workout regimen right now. Does anyone have experience with this? I dont want to spend all the money for a membership then get to the gym just to sit around an watch other people work out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ifics 0 #3 December 16, 2004 Right at the first of the year is a HUGE rush of people in the gym! About 2 months later I don't see any of the new faces still around. It doesn't matter when you join just stick with it and you will be good to go!
aerohaga 0 #4 December 16, 2004 In my experience as a fitness instructor, the first 3 weeks of the year will be a madhouse at the gym. But by the first of February all the "resolutionaries" will have given up. Wait a month-you'll be better off.For my part, I know nothing with any certainty, But the sight of the stars makes me dream. -Vincent Van Gogh
Casurf1978 0 #5 December 16, 2004 At my gym the first few weeks of Jan are pretty bad. That's why I go later on at night around 9ish. Some gyms you can join for a month and check them out. Do this if you can, but remember the peak hours are usually 430-8ish.

weegegirl 2 #7 December 16, 2004 joining a gym at new years is fun. you get to see all the super out of shape peeps come in and then die off one by one. then you feel all bad ass when you are the last one standing.
steve1 5 #8 December 16, 2004 I've definitely got to lose some pounds also. I've never been this fat. A lot of gyms get way too crowded. I know some gyms even limit their membership because of this, but most are probably just after the bucks and the more members the better for them. Some times of the day are busier than others. It seems like about 5:oo p.m. to 8:00 p.m. is the busiest time of all. You might want to check things out at those times of day. If they're too crowded, pick a different gym. Find one that has a good atmosphere as well as well equipped. I like free weights over machines, myself. Also pick a gym that has the right kind of clientel. I hate it when a few muscleheads try to take over the place by hollering, throwing weights, and generally showing off for everyone. I personally do a lot better working out at a gym than at home. I just feel a lot more motivated. I need to get out of my old and lazy mind set that I've developed lately. I hate to admit that every year I start a new diet that doesn't last long. I'm thinking about getting into running, but I've never liked it much, and I like lifting weights a lot more. Right now I'm trying to do both. There's not a lot of aerobic benefit to weight training, but it does keep you fairly fit. I just got off the treadmill an hour ago, down in the basement. I've got to get down there more often. I'm starting to look a lot like Haystack Calhoon, and I don't like the beer belly I'm developing. I've got a friend who used to be a world champion jumper, but he is unable to jump much in the winter due to work obligations. It's often kind of depressing here, in Montana, during the winter months when no jumping is going on. He says instead of jumping all winter he eats instead. Although he is now too heavy, he can still fly like a bird, but this is probably the exception to the rule. There is a huge mental aspect to dieting or even eating healthy if you crave the wrong foods like I do. I need to develop some healthier habits and then stick with it....Steve1
