Randy_H 0 #1 December 15, 2004 Is there any universal criteria for beer at the DZ? I think that maybe the USPA or other entity should set something up. At my DZ in DeLand, everything is beer. You almost don't want to tell anyone anything because it equals beer! For example: first 2 way = beer, first stand-up landing = beer, first cutaway = beer, etc.. I was in the bar buying beer on completion of my A license proficiency card and mentioned that I purchased a new pair of goggles and everyone started telling me that the goggles = beer, why? New gear! After you buy the beer, there are whuffo vultures hanging around gulping down the beers ment for your skydiving buds! This post was really ment to be a joke, I have no problem with buying beer on my accomplishments because I sure as hell won't pass up the opportunity to drink when someone else needs to purchase beer! What are some of the beer criteria for you DZs? PS - Busch, Natural Light, Old Milwaukee, or any other cheap assed domestic beer does NOT count as beer!010010010110010101100001011101000111000001110101011100110111001101111001

IanHarrop 42 #4 December 15, 2004 See this: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=81 Rule # 9 QuoteBy Bill von Novak 9. Buy your beer. It sounds like a selfish tradition, designed to punish new jumpers. It's a whole lot more than that, though. The key is that, if you buy the beer and give it to people, they will ask you what it's for, and you will end up talking to people (up to 23) about what just happened. Since this usually happens at some significant time (say, right after your first cutaway) this is a really important time to talk about what just happened without being embarrassed about it. (Well, maybe you will be anyway, but tough.) On the flip side - if someone buys beer for the DZ, and you're an experienced jumper, don't just grab a bottle and run. Find out who bought it and why they bought it. That beer isn't quite free - the price is that you have to pass on the knowledge that _you_ first learned when it seemed like you were buying a case every other weekend. Mixoligist 0 #6 December 20, 2004 I hear ya bro. Just be carefull of using the word "first". Buy your beer for your first solo, first time jumping your own gear and your 100th jump... other than that the vultures are on their own. It's always ok to buy me a beer though You know who your buds are be safe Bob.................................. Better you than me ..................................
