metalslug 36 #26 December 23, 2004 I read somewhere that, prior to about 1950, there were no claims or accounts from anyone of spacecraft or alien abductions. The popular claim before that was witches. Yup, witches. People claimed to have seen broomsticks in the sky and been visited by witches or goblins who would abduct them, paralyze them or terrorize them in some way. Witches were a more common paranormal belief back then. Nowadays, since Hollywood has brought us Star Trek, Close Encounters and other sci-fi, its easier for the modern mind to connect their dreams and unexplained experiences (read about "Sleep Paralysis") to aliens and spaceships. It's been a while since anyone last reported being abducted by witches. -No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
Yoshi 0 #27 December 23, 2004 just as the quote from contact... "I think if there isnt anything else beyond earth...its an aweful waste of space.." I think there has to be other compitent life forms out there, but I dont, however, believe that they have made it all the way to earth jsut to say hi to a minority of our population... when (or more like if) we actually do get visited by aliens I assume it will be more to the masses than to only farmers and trailer trash _________________________________________ this space for rent. Shotgun 1 #28 December 23, 2004 Quote(read about "Sleep Paralysis") Funny you should mention that - it was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread. I have had the "awake during sleep paralysis" dreams for about 20 years now (fairly regularly). One of the more memorable ones I had - when I was about 15 - involved aliens. It wasn't really an "abduction", but they were in my room. I was lying in bed and staring at the plug socket on the other side of my room - the aliens (which looked somewhat like large ants) had a cord going from the socket into my head and I was watching them walk in a line up and down the cord (but I couldn't tell what they were doing to my head). This was one of the most vivid and realistic dreams I have ever had. I kept trying to get up, but I couldn't move of course. When I finally woke, it was more like I just blinked my eyes and the aliens were gone - because I was still lying in the same position and staring at the plug across the room. At the time, I didn't know anything about sleep paralysis or that it even had a name (no one I told about these dreams had ever known what I was talking about). And I'm usually skeptical about alien abductions and such, but this was so REAL (and un-dreamlike) that I actually spent a few days wondering if something had really happened.... but I finally convinced myself it was just a dream. Anyhow, years later - when I finally found a website about the "awake during sleep paralysis" dreams (such a relief to find out other people had these and new what I was going through!) - I was surprised to find a whole section on alien abductions and how so many of those stories had been attributed to this kind of dream! Pretty freaky... (But of the countless sleep paralysis dreams I've had over the years, that was the only time that one involved aliens.)
