freeflir29 0 #1 December 22, 2004 This was entirely too funny to not share. I was showing my tunnel tape to my parents and son this afternoon. They all "Oooood" and "Aaaahhhhh'd" about the flying. (Ari and Paige's........not mine) After watching it for awhile my son comments "They have all the same songs there as they do at the DZ." I laughed so hard my spleen dislodged. I gotta teach this kid about techno. I was horrified today when the Beastie Boys' "Paul Revere" came on the radio and he said he didn't like it. I turned it up to listen to the bass anyway. I wonder if he thinks the same of me as I did my Mom when she was blaring John Denver. Kids?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

bob.dino 1 #5 December 22, 2004 Note to most Americans: Techno is not dancey pop, or house, or anything vaguely dancey with a synthesized beat. Techno is hard, driving, minimalistic and has almost no melody or vocals (cf. Jeff Mills). I dunno where you lot picked up your overarchingly broad definition of what consitutes techno (please say it wasn't 2 Unlimited ), but it really irritates me . QuoteI dunno where you lot picked up your overarchingly broad definition of what consitutes techno I do refer to many differen't kinds of music as "techno." With subdivisions such as house, trance, etc. Never got into it enough to know any more.

volo 0 #23 December 22, 2004 There are a few good points that people are making here on this thread. There are so many areas of techno (of course some may call it EDM, Electronica, etc.) in which it branches out into. Many people who don't listen to it are quick to stereotype it and give their own narrow minded opinion about the genre. Whether you enjoy a style of music or not, there is some level of appreciation in what goes into developing the sound and vocals (if it applies). Take country music for example. I don't necessarily listen to country music, nor do I particularly enjoy it. It would be easy for me to categorize that genre of people as rednecks waving the confederate flag, drinking Budwiser and husbands cheating on their wives with their cousin. On the other hand, stereotypying individuals who listen to certain styles of music and associating them with this stigma is pure ignorance. I very much appreciate alot of different types of music (including country) and respect that every artist or dj has their own way of expressing their emotions and attitudes with music. Regarding Techno/Electronica, some people take it to a whole other level. Though many people associate it with using Ecstacy and many other drugs, this isn't necessarily always true. I do have to say that I was deep into 'the scene' for many years, but I also know now that you don't have to be on drugs and put this raver attitude to listen and enjoy Techno/Electronica. So whether you like or dislike anybody's form of expression, keep one thing in mind.... ..."don't hate, APPRECIATE" p.s. - for those who put the pacifiers in their mouth and feel the need to make others annoyed (possibly giving some people seizures) by waving glow sticks in the air....you can seriously stop....THAT is not a form of expression....you just look like a crack-head idiot.
