So i got a spankin new 40gig Ipod just begging to get some use but I need to install this firewire card and it wont let me.

I have a Dell Dimension L933R

trying to install a ADS PCI64 firewire card.

whenever I install the card the computer wont fire up at all...power source turns on but HD doesn't kick in at all. when i take the card out everything fires up perfectly fine.

Marc,

I'm sure you don't but thought I'd ask anyway...Do you have USB2 ports on the Dell? iPod will work with either USB2 or Firewire.

I'm sure you'll get the Firewire card working and when you do, enjoy that iPod!!

First, are you putting the card into a 32 or 64 bit PCI slot? If you are in fact using a 64 bit slot, then your Dell BIOS probably doesn't care for the card, so I'd go for a 32 bit PCI card from Adaptec.

I think we found our problem. didn't even know there was a difference...and after looking at my manual it seems that I do have a 32 bit PCI slot.

thanks. ok back to the store to xchange
