D22369 0 #26 December 30, 2004 I figured there was some reason the emachines are so reasonably priced, some trade off somewhere...... sigh.... teach me to be a cheap bastard... thanks; RoyThey say I suffer from insanity.... dkg 0 #27 December 30, 2004 Played that game on a PW for well over 1.5 years. Have you checked the video settings in the game? I know features like Enviormental Shadows and whatnot can really put a hurtin on the performance. With that vid card/chipset i'd set most of the video settings somewhat mid-to-low in the game. FlailingJohn 0 #29 December 30, 2004 www.outpost.com If you shopping arround for a new computer dont be afraid of Amd's processors. You can propably get a good priced on a athlon with atleast over 2 ghz cpu and it would be atleast better than a celeron. Also for the graphics card I agree with other's comments on ati. Also Ever thought of asking a "geek" friend to build a computer for you? Just ask him/her what type of motherboard plus case. Then you have the options of tranferring--if compatible--memory graphics card and harddrive to the newer computer....or you could buy a new graphics card, hard drive and memory for a newer computer. Imho 500 will only get you a low end proprietary(sp) computer. Which means you cant really change anything on it. john
turtlespeed 226 #30 December 30, 2004 Hmmm - Daughter "needed" a computer for "homework" so I went to OPDC and found a P4 2.4G 800FS bus, 512 of pc3200 ddr, fan, and motherboard for 190 bucks. ( I already have a copy of an OS, a cd rw +/- 40x, ATI Radeon(5500? I forget) and a soundblaster sound card of some sort - plus a Klipsch 5.1 dolby suuround system just lying around) so I figured WTH - Gramma's gunna spring for a monitor 50/50 with me and I get a 22" refurb Dell and she gets a 2 yo 19" with all the bells and whistles. Breaking it down - She'll get a brand new computer with more power than my 11 year old could ever need, I get a spiffy monitor for Video edditing, and I pay 315 dollars. How'm I doin' Mar?I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
