I need your help.

Recommended Posts

There has been a stray dog around my neighborhood for about a month that I have been trying to befriend. I have been able to pet it but whenever I tried to get a leash on it or get it to come inside the house it would take off. Well thursday night I got her to come inside and she seems to be verry happy but timid also, I know the timidness will pass with time. But the help I need is What do I name her now. I know you people on here can come up with a good name. So what should it be?

Kudos to you for saving a life.

Not sure if you have been able to get her to a vet yet, but you may want to look into a vet that makes house calls. House calls are more expensive, but it would help keep her stress levels down.

btw....she is a very pretty girl.

Congratulations, and thank you! Yes, please get her vetted ASAP...and see if they'll scan for a chip.

Lessee, as for names....

Christmas (Chrissy for short)
Emily (she has an "Emily" look about her)
Flea Bait ('cause that's what she is)

As for her timidness, she'll adjust. You may want to put down an old stinky tee shirt where she likes to hide/sleep, and lay a treat or two down on it for her as well. This will associate your scent with treats and safety, and that might help her adjust.

And thanks for taking her in. She looks like a dear one, for sure.

Michele

Congrats on your new friend. I bet she is far happier now.

Your other dog is named Bart, so if you appreciate the show- The Simpsons, why not name her Lisa?

Or if you don't want something that corny..
She kind of has exotic looking eyes, I think she looks like a Jasmine also. (Jazz or Jazzy for short)

Pat, what a wonderful thing you have done. I myself have rescued three dogs. Really it's my girlfriend that runs a rescue place, and when she gets full or a really sick dog in that needs more one on one attention, I take that dog to my place. I've not done too bad, out of being a foster parent to at least 25 dogs, I've only kept the three.

My most recent rescue that I kept, was a Golden Mix. She only weighted 35 pounds when I brought her to my home, you could feel every bone in her body. And talk about timid the first night I let her out of the house to go into the back yard, I had to go out there and bring her back in. Not a lot of background history was know about her, but our best guess and what information we got from other sources, was she was left tied up most of her life in the backyard of some fools that wouldn't bother to feed her or give her water. When these people moved out, they just left her in the back yard. No one in the area noticed that the dog had been left, since she never made a sound.

I had her for about a week went I realized she was one smart dog and there was no way I was going to give her up. Rose now weighs in at 50 pounds and is the best dog I have ever owed. She is still timid, but after two years, she is improving, and I think it's because I take her everywhere with me. I'm lucky that I can take her to work with me, she just lays under my desk.

The stinky tee shirt is agreat idea i will do that

It's one of the most effective tricks I've ever used when trying to get a frightened animal more comfortable with it's new surroundings. When you drop treats down, they come to the idea that your smell=yummy things, and that's a good way to begin the trust.

It still hasn't worked well with Pengy. While she has lived here 9 months, and does sleep on my rocking chair (with a stinky shirt), she still won't let me too close without significant fear. But we've come a long way, so I figure it's working. Bear in mind that she may rip it to pieces, so use one that you don't mind losing.

If she's already joining you on the bed, she may be all right to go to the vets.

And give Lucky B a hug for me, and tell her "welcome home!"

We adopted a big black dog, half lab, half rott? anyway, she was a real bitch, and just came along for the ride (since we already had 3 other dogs) so we named her TANDEM. She is a great dog, and my grandsons best friend!

I'd call her "oddball" She's a bitch an got no balls to be seen.
but she had the balls to be befriended by a stranger
in the photo she looks like a hienz57 (no dissrespect)
but stray mixed breeds always have a harder time being adopted
What you've done is great
I befriended, took in a cat an she's called oddball
so it's not such a strange name.
