turtlespeed 226 #4 January 4, 2005 I'm going to get slammed for this. I realise that the destruction is immense - I realise that it is immeasurable - but trying to make it look worse than it is by adding color and contrast to the before pictures while not the after - even browning out the after - what the hell is that?I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
PhillyKev 0 #5 January 4, 2005 You sure that's not sediment browning out everything?
turtlespeed 226 #6 January 4, 2005 No - but I'm pretty sure most people don't have blue roofs.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
ChasingBlueSky 0 #7 January 4, 2005 I'm not sure that pic has been shopped...I'm guessing that plenty of sand/dirt were moved around. If you look at the after pics in Mobile Bay after the hurricane you will see the sand has moved inland by almost a mile. edit - check out pic one in that link - they caught the waves pulling out before the tsunami hit_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... PhillyKev 0 #8 January 4, 2005 You sure? The originals are at http://www.digitalglobe.com/ I've seen different colored roofs being typical in different regions of the country, let alone the world.
turtlespeed 226 #9 January 4, 2005 Just looks "media-ized" to me - just an observation -I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

Casurf1978 0 #12 January 4, 2005 Not slamming you at all, but I doubt those pictures are altered in anyway. It's brown due to all the mud, and debris. Also look at the color of the ocean, thats pretty damn close to what it looks like here in So Cal after a severe storm when all the crap gets washed out to sea. slug 1 #15 January 5, 2005 QuoteNahh, dude...you're expert status is definitely on the line in this one Those are natural color images from Quickbird sattelite. The pictures of the total destruction are beyond words. Some interesting observations: The satelite was able to pick up the Tsunami pulling the tide out before the big wave came in. I will never do anything bad again because it's going to be on video. Some of the damaged area's along the coast and rivers: rice paddies ocean front property had been reclaimed from from mother nature over centuries. We have a history in the US of building in the flood plain and then watch it reclaimed by mother nature only to rebuild in the same place again. Sometimes we'll build levies to protect the development from a 101 yr flood only to see another 100 yr flood 5 yr's later. The human race will survive we'll all pitch in and help and help. BTW the photo's look real no infra red or any of that stuff. R.i.P.

Sometimes we'll build levies to protect the development from a 101 yr flood only to see another 100 yr flood 5 yr's later. Fortunately, we're doing a lot better about that now. I was working with FEMA when the new laws regarding building in flood plains came out and they started enforcing flood insurance requirements. We're on a good path to elliminating residential areas in flood zones. Problem is, people like to live by the peaceful stream, never anticipating it could become a river in a matter of hours.
