Help! I need to lose 10 lbs. fast!

Recommended Posts

OK, so I let the holidays, some depression and other extenuating circumstances allow me to quit exercising, eat wrong and to gain weight.

Being a diehard CRWdog, they have certain wing loading requirements. I am currently approximately 10 lbs. over my required weight.

I need some relatively safe suggestions for a quick weight loss. And I have to lose it by Feb. 4'th.

Did the lack of carbs make him weak or dizzy? I have done a diet of low carbs before and after a few days, I have found that I can't lift as many weights at the gym as I used to be able to.

Boinky,

One of the best ways is to make sure you are drinking a lot of water. I have been told by a few personal trainers that if you drink at least 8- 8oz. glasses a day you can lose 10 lbs. in one week.

But the all around best way is to cut back on calories and exercise.

The low carb diets work if they are done right. But your body needs a good balance of carbs, protein, and even fat. Carbs are what gives you body fuel. But if you are eating a lot of carbs (bread, pasta, and such) then cutting back on those will definately help. Because even though they give your body fuel if you don't use them then they will turn into fat in the long run. In my opinion the best time to eat carbs is before a work out or earlier in the day. I would say to avoid them later in the day and in the evening.

lots and lots of cocaine.

but that'll get pretty expensive.

Yeah, probably so. If I had that sort of money laying around to "blow," I'd just go get liposuction. :P

Yup. He is actually a fairly hardcore weightlifter and he quit lifting while he was doing the no carb thing. He said that he just didn't have the energy to do anything for the first week. I have never gone on this diet myself, but from what I have been told, once you body gets used to the fact that it is not getting a whole lot of carbs, it adapts itself to get energy from burning fats and you get your energy back.

IF you want to lose weight and keep it off I would do it the traditional way -- cut out all snacking, cut your portions in half and eat healthier (i.e. fishes, lean meats, vegetables, fruits), and exercise. I seriously lose weight when I do the simple things of cutting out snacks and cutting my portions

Atkins/South Beach work very well but once you switch back to your normal diet (of eating carbs and such) the weight often comes back.

Also, my mom often does weight watchers a week before she wants to lose 5 lbs for some event that requires her to "look good"

Just some thoughts....

I do a low-carb diet, and that's pretty close, yeah. It takes about a week or two to get used to it, and it definitely helps to break up the meals (e.g., eat several smaller meals per day).

The Atkins site says that the diet isn't recommended for serious weightlifters. I would imagine that taking in some extra carbs at lunch, lets say, and then working out sometime in the afternoon probably wouldn't "blow" the diet.

And, for all the Atkins naysayers, before you chime in:

Atkins is a LOW (or lower) carb diet, not a NO carb diet. All you're doing is cutting out the sugars and empty carbs. There's no difference between getting your carbs from salads and veggies rather than from bread/starches, except that the salad/veggies are healthier for you.

Boinky: As I said, I've been on this type of diet (not religiously) for about 9 months now. If you'd like more info, feel free to drop me a PM and I'll share what I know.

There's no safe way.

The safest diuretic is water. If you are really that desperate, drink two gallons of water a day and you'll have the weight off quickly.

It's going to be mostly water weight, though. ( I always thought that was a funny expression, since most of our tissues are water anyhow)

A pound of fat contains something like 3500 calories. So 10 pounds means 35,000 calories either burned off above what you normally require, or starving out that many calories from your food without changing anything else.

Short term, you can just get some of the water our of your tissues, which is relatively easy. A gallon weighs 8.3 pounds.

Good luck.

Definitely balance the reduced calories with increased aerobic exercise.
However, be careful to maintain a balanced diet.
20 years ago I tried losing weight by skipping lunch and ironically I gained weight because I no longer had the energy to run on a regular basis.
You still need a balanced diet, just a smaller diet.

Make the other crw dogs wear more weight???

Hmmm...now THERE'S a thought. I LIKE IT!!

No seriously, if I'm overweight, they'll make me move up to a 143 with weights (I hate jumping with weights).

Gear & rig/reserve weigh approximately 22'ish lbs. That includes helmet, gloves, goggles, hook knives, long sleeve shirt, etc.

I've been invited to be on the Women's World CRW Record in late April/May. Required wing loading is between a 1.31-1.375. I'll be on the high side even loosing 10 lbs. I've been SUCH a bad girl.

*Cut down to 1400 calories a day.
*Walking 45 minutes up to twice a day.
*Cut out bread, pasta & crackers.
*Take a multi-vitamin daily.
*Had to cut out most of the hard-core weights, as I was feeling pretty weak.
*Increased water to 64 ounces, but will try the other suggestion. 2 gallons though? Man, I'll be in the bathroom more than now!
*Cut down to 1 carbonated diet drink a day.

How am I doing so far? You're all going to be my cheering section, right?

You could say it in 2 words: HAVE SEX

While this is a valid option, they'd have to be a HELL of a man to make me sweat while having sex, as I don't even sweat when I work out. :$
