The Ultimate Jump

Date: Friday - 31 December 2004

Participants: Vewdoo1 & Turtlespeed

I drove out to Skydive Temple for a day of jumping and comrad Comrede drinking and arrived at about 2pm as the sun and clouds decided to part ways.

First load - grabbed all the video gear outta da bags and set it all up to be mounted on top my head and off we go - decent four way - couple of points - and a couple of piece turns - then break off - not too scary but I can't remember reaching and pulling that fast - EVER.:D (Track people - you're on candid camera:o)

But thats not what I'm here to tell you about.

so here we go -

No Shit, There I was - I was pretty sure I was gunna die!:D

I did my first wingsuit jump. This was going to be be-U-T-Ful - Sunset, light winds, warm temperature everything was perfect.

I got dressed in a BM suit (Not an easy task for a first timer), and got all trained up. I wasn't quite sure why they had me turn off my cypress, though. Something about the low airpressure wouldn't let it work anyway. Then I disconnected my RSL, just in case of entaglements.

I really am glad that I had borrowed a rig for this - my rig would have been so hard to actually get into. I can't thank you enough, Perry, for lending me the 107, without it, I probably wouldn't have gotten the penetration into the wind on landing. (since I had to present so much topskin to the relative wind, and was getting pushed back so much.) My 190 just wouldn't do.

So, all dressed up, and waiting on the plane. What was I thinking - Where was my camera helmet? I ran back and just barely remembered to put it on night shot as it was getting close to 5:20 now. This is going to be great!

And just for our lucky breaks - the clouds are going to give us a NICE background to sillouette the stills and stuff.

Sigh, man, what a Blast - what a sissy pilot though - I mean - 1200 ft of cloud cover is NOTHING - come on - OK - so it's "Bending the rules" a little - but still - this is a "Beer" jump and Voodew1 is determined to make sure it happens.

I think the pilot never sighed so much in his life as he finally figures out how to turn the GPS on. Yeah - like it's such a big deal to land off.

Well here comes the jump run - and everyone on the plane smiles and salutes as the sun dissapears behind the horizon and door is called.

What a ride!:)

So that time we jumped together didn't scare you enough?

Sorry you didn't get your wingsuit jump in, but as I was reading your post I was seeing too many red flags. It worked out for the best.

Oh, when you said the "door was called" I thought it was called closed.

Well, I'm glad that things worked out for you. Do you have pictures of this jump?

But damn it, you need to add up the red flags, or else I'll have to head out there again and do some ass kicking.

Umm...no doubt. A 107, a birdman suit, a camera, and no Cypres? Clint, you got damn lucky. Glad you had a fun weekend though.

For the record, I always leave my Cypres on when I do a BM jump. Ya just never know. I'm happy to jump without it, but if it's in my rig then it gets turned on.

I couldn't find any. Will a ball gag and a cane suffice? After all, we don't want him to disturb his neighbors.:)

That works great. Really, just bring anything that will cause pain:ph34r:

Mebbe we should start calling him 'Turtle Dove' then...:P

Ok, get off me...that's all I can come up with on a Monday morning. :S

Clint I did everything I could to keep you safe on your first wingsuit jump and you can't even spell my name right---its VOODEW

I think you did pretty well on that jump but I couldn't see you it was so dark.

I am glad you enjoyed / survived it - next time we will load the suit with chem lites so I can try to find you in the sky

I never did ask you what the protrack recorded.

Hey next time we will start earlier so its not so dark when we leave the plane (My night vision is bad when I drink)

Welcome to the flock - you were the most exciting

Voodew, i forget - are you a BMI?

That jump was a huge accident waiting to happen as Kris has already pointed out, a camera helmet, a 107, no cypres?

Congrats on your first BM jump, but more congrats on not killing yourself.

I didn't read how many jumps you had on the 107 before taking it on a BM jump.

I STILL very rarely jump with a camera helmet on my BM jumps and I have over 250 of them, that of course is a personal preference - always have a cypres and jump a lightly loaded hornet.

"LIGHTEN UP FRANCES!!!!!!"

I am not a BMI but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night so I am qualified and you don't want to start that arguement with me.
-- Do a search I have covered my feelings on that.

PS - I think it was his first jump on that 107 and as for the whole camera thing - well if you aren't wearing the camera you can't get the shots of me!!!!!!

Now the cypres thing I learned from the crew dogs that they can just fire at anytime and I would hate to be top-docking my student and have his cypres fire so I always have them turn them off for my safety!!

Lightly loaded canopies are no fun in linetwists when your arms are restricted they fly straight so if you want to fly extreme wingsuits lets up the stakes-- its only a reserve repack - but what a rush!!!!!

Who wants to be next

EEGAD what the HELL happened to your avatar, TURTLE?!? :o

Speaking of which...it's prolly time for a change...

Well, after the set I had to grow, to let voodew try to train my uncoordinated butt, I had to start a strict contincent of "Beefcake" that I borrowed from Cartman -

That and Mr. Bonds was VERY gratious and let me hold some "Baggage" for him.

Okay there guys - I finally figured out how to download pics and post them from my new camera. Sorry that it took so long, I am a little new at this.

Jump scared the shit out of me -Turtle (or should I say "gerbil" you are not a birdman and should never try to be again - EVER. As for the wing loading on the 107, at least your remebered how to PLF.

Stick to video under your big ass 190 so that you will live long enough to jump with me again.

Had fun though!!

That must have been just as we pulled out of the clouds - Man - I thought it was dark - but it looks REALLY dark in that pic. I'm glad I had my sunglasses on - I think all the beer helped too. I would have been really scared if I was sober.[:/]
