iPhantom of the Opera....the movie

Recommended Posts

If you have any interest in musicals whatsoever, GO SEE IT. It was absolutely fantastic.

The only problem I had with it was the casting of the Phantom....he plays the part well at times, but he doesn't quite look the part, and the way he sings sometimes...I don't know if it's his accent or the way he pronounces his words......I guess you'd have to be a complete music buff to point it out. B|:P He also could have been a bit more enthusiastic and/or mysterious if ya ask me.

Other than that though, SUPERB. The theatrics, the costumes, the plot, the music.....all wonderfully done. And the woman who played Christine....PERFECT for the part.

And I won't give it away, but if you've ever seen the real Phantom live.....the intro will NOT disappoint you. ;)

In short.....GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!! B|

I went to see it on Christmas day. Now that my kids are grown it's become a tradition to go to a movie on Chistmas day after brunch. We saw Phantom of the Opera and I loved it. I'd read the book and seen the play prior to the movie. I would definitely recommend the movie. And yeah, I agree with you about the phantom character - IMO he just wasn't creepy enough, was like a Hollywood version phantom. But I still loved the movie and would recommend it.

Saw it. Loved it! Andrew Lloyd Webber did a superb job.

It is a moving production along the quality lines of Moulin Rouge and Chicago. Spectacular in vision and cast...voice and delivery. It actually made you ache for the misfortune the now mad Phantom is going through. Wanting to rescue him, but at the same time afraid.

The voice of Christine was amazing! I found it hard to believe that such a voice could come out of one so young...yet she's trained from the age of 7 in this art.

The naivete of Christine. The wholesomeness and a bit of arrogance of Raoul. The loneliness and immense talent of the Phantom...yet his madness that was developing throughout the film. It brought tears.

True. Yet, doesn't this version have you in more of a quandry over right and wrong vs an instant recoil when the Phantom is played as a gargoyle?

Ive been wanting to go.
I was worried that the quality of the music would be lacking.
I have not seen the play, but has the original recording and love it.
In fact, I bought it the night before my first jump and listened to it on the way to the dz.
From then on, it was All I would listen to on my way to jump.
Thanks for the reviews of the movie.:)

Ok I finally got to see it this weekend and I loved it! It took me right back to sitting in the Majestic Theater on Broadway watching it for the first time.

I agree the casting of Gerard Butler as the Phantom was a bit off.Hes a great actor but I think he could have done better.(can you believe hes the same guy who played Dracula in Dracula 2000?..weird.)

But my big pet peeve though is that they jacked with a major part of the story.Instead of keeping with Leroux's book or Webber's musical production, the movie had the chandelier falling during Christine's performance in 'Don Juan Triumphant' instead of during Carlotta's performance of 'Il Muto'.That caused change to some other little things in the story. Grr why do people think they have to change a classic?>:(If it hadnt been for that screw up I'd say it was a perfect movie version of the musical.
