GravityGirl 0 #1 January 10, 2005 I get about 200 - 400 junk e-mails per day. I have a spam guard, but I have to sift through it anyways because some of my business e-mail end up there. But that's not what I'm crying about this morning! It seems that there are different themes that come and go. "Is you Mom in pain?" "I heard your brother is in pain.", etc. But the latest and greatest just make my stomach turn first thing in the morning. The latest and greatest is a cum theme. "Wish you could shoot a bigger load of cum?" "Huge cum shots!", "Impress your girl with your big cum shot!" What the hell! I get about 100 "Cum" e-mails per day. How do I stop the madness?!?! I'm trying to eat breakfast here. And to tell you the truth, huge cum shots don't impress me?!?! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! flyingferret 0 #3 January 10, 2005 Someday somewhere back in the void that was 'the beginning' some paranoid nerd was screaming "Would you just give out your home address? Would you?" Well, noone listened, people harvested them, and sold them, and now we know. In short there are recent guideline for 'adult spam' Check them http://www.ncsl.org/programs/lis/legislation/spamlaws02.htm Actually making a practical difference is kinda of hard though. My only suggestion is never release your 'real' email for registrations, etc. I have a spam@ email address on my domain for this, and it is basically a honeypot for junk like this. That being said, I was on the board of a non profit, who did mailings through Yahoo groups, that caused the first ever spam to my 'real' address. So you never know what simple things can start the flood. Once it starts...good luck.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. unformed 0 #5 January 10, 2005 well the email address yuo're using right now is fucked. there's nothing you can really do. what i do however, is i signed up with sneakemail.com, (it's free, but they give you a little extra features for a little extra cost) ..... it lets you create new email addresses on the fly for which mail get forwarded to your real address. this is good because if you go to a site and need to provide an address you could give (for example: dropzone-gravitygirl@sneakemail.com) and hide your real address. if it gets spam infested, you jsut go into sneakemail and tell them to block everything to that address. if you just an address temporarily (for some stupid registration or something) make up (whatever)@dodgeit.com and then you can go check the email there at dodgeit.com. it's made for the sole purpose of using disposable addresses for spammers. This ad space for sale. Dougiefresh 0 #7 January 10, 2005 Can't you just block anything from gg.com? Or are you just using gg as a variable?Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams

Cost of doing business on the web. I used to use my real address for that, but I ended up getting around 6000 spams a month, which renderd it unusable. That's why I use the yahoo address now. I have to say that their spam blocking is excellent. I've yet to see them quarantine anything that I need. Also, if you own your own domain name, you're kind of toast anyway, because a lot of spambots will just unleash torrents of this crap at you with fake postmaster@ and admin@ type addresses. Also, if you are using MS Outlook, search for a file called filters.txt and add in offending words like cum. That will at least get them in the junk pile for you. PhreeZone 20 #9 January 10, 2005 What spam software do you have currently? Based on what you are using I might be able to suggest much better methods of filtering the mail.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
flyingferret 0 #10 January 10, 2005 Another thing to check is if your emails are posted anywhere. For example in this post, you just published 3 emails for spam. How? "Spider" programs crawl webpages to harvest anything that looks like a valid smtp address. Just having it on your website is enough to get it spammed.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.

lummy 4 #16 January 10, 2005 Talk to your provider who is hosting your mail service to see if they have any type of spam filtering available. Where I work and for my home mail server ( I host my own) we use a service which will check for known spam hosts and refuse to even accept mail from those IP's. At work, we're refusing 400 to 500 e-mails a day Your ISP should be happy to reduce the extra load on the mail server.I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. GravityGirl 0 #21 January 10, 2005 QuoteI use Yahoo and find the filter works well, but once in a while, a real email will get filtered to the SPAM folder... Yeah. That's the problem. My e-mail is dumped into my Yahoo account. THe filter is great, but some "real" e-mail ends up there. I have had customers tell me that they sent a mail and I never got it. So I sift throught the sewage every day. And this week the sewage has been filled with.... ....well, I already told you about that. So! DOES anyone want a bigger load? 'Cause I can probably shoot you in the right direction! (All puns intended). My mail box is clean, I have a fresh cup of coffee, and life is good again. And thanks for the help! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
