NoShitThereIWas 0 #26 January 10, 2005 No shit there I was ... HeHeHe, couldn't resist posting to this thread The place: Blue Water Boogie, Parker Arizona The event: Thought I was gonna die but managed to pull one lucky ass landing off. Coming in on final approach into a tight D license/PRO rating LZ. Not too many outs unless you like landing in the Colorado River or in/on a casino. Caught thermals off some sloped areas and then my final approach became a slalom course of dodging and flying around chain link fences. Stabbed the flare out just at the right time, didn't panic as I completely overshot my target due to the thermals and landed going down a rocky sloped embankment. Yep within minutes came people to tell me how lucky I was as the same thing happened to someone else at the boogie. Unfortunately he decided against the slalom course and did a 180 followed by another 180 into the wind and broke his pelvis and I think a leg or two. Roy Bacon: "Elvises, light your fires." Sting: "Be yourself no matter what they say."
kinney29 0 #27 January 10, 2005 All of these Army stories, take me back ...... So I'm at a bar in SC with some friends and they have a beutiful blonde friend with them and I start talking to her. I convince her to drive to DC the next day with me so I can drop off a rental car, from an accident i had up there and pick up my car. She agrees. We get to DC and hang out at a couple of bars and then get a room for the night. The typical things happen when a guy and a girl share a hotel room then we head back to SC the next day. As were pulling into my barracks were her car is, she tells me to please keep this quite because her and her "Husband" (I had no idea) are starting a seperation and this would look bad. (Ya think) her husbands turns out tho be a battalion XO who's leaving for Korea. So I do what any man would do, start dating his wife as soon as they file for divorce. Eventually she relized that an E-4 and O-4 do not make the same amount of money, and they decide not to get a divorce. I did hide in her closet one day when the post commanders AG stopped by for drinks. She had a house off post next door to an E-& in my Company. We used to leave for PT at the same time every morning. I would wait until he left then I would go. The story goes on and on and seems to be out of control. Like her and I crashing at a LT. Col. house for the night, because we were out with his wife and too drunk to drive home. He had no idea who I was and i kept it that way. Eventually someone ratted me out to my CO, who told me "If she wants to slum it, so be it" Ouch, those officers can be pricks. I was young and stupid, but what an adventure for a the 21 year old. Got tired of the staring from neighbors when I left base housing the next morning to go back home to the barracks.
GeordieSkydiver 0 #29 January 10, 2005 No shit, there I was on a patrol in ******** ******* (anti terrorist operation), I was the leader of a 4 man team. Anyway, we are patrolling along tactically and I'm talking into my radio mouthpiece to control. I hear a loud CRACK, and think to myself, 'wow, that sounded like a 7.62mm and close" I turn around to ask the other team members if they heard something whilst still talking on the radio. I turn just in time to see all three of their boot soles as they dive for cover. I released the transmit button as I took cover, only for control to instantly start demanding a 'sitrep'. They'd heard the contact over the air. What happened next? Well thats another 'No shit there I was...." story. We all came out with no extra holes in us, which was nice.Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
GQ_jumper 4 #30 January 11, 2005 no shit there i was trying to put myself the minimum safe distance from a breaching charge i had just placed to blow a gate, the charge had a less than 4 second delay, as i turned to take a few steps i tried to walk over the pile of gravel behind me and fell straight into it. only 4 feet from the charge, less than half of the minimum distance, i manage to roll myself over the pile of gravel, and being behind the gravel was enough to keep me from getting a faceful. the charge went off and we hit the house inside, and somwhere through that house i managed to smash me elbow good. didn't feel it for about another hour though. but it still hurts and my ears are still ringing cause this happened about 4 hours ago. and now its time for me to get some sleep cause i was up all night causing mayhem.History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D.
