akurtom 0 #1 January 10, 2005 Alright.... how many of you experience problems when going to travel by plane. I do. As an Arab American and as a animate skydiver, I find myself "randomly selected" for security cheks that last twenty mins. or more. of course, having the name Ahmed doesnt help, and having a rig to carry on does not help either. how many of you drink while traveling. and by drink, like bring bottle of liquor with you every time you travel? just a quick poll... gordy 0 #2 January 10, 2005 Never really had any problems travelling, sorry to hear that you do. If it is along flight I do tend to have a good few s before I get on the plane, and another good few s on the plane, then I sit and give out some big zzzzzzzzzs for the rest of the flight, if you get it right then teleportation does exist
misskriss 0 #3 January 10, 2005 I get randomly selected more than most I think. I have flown about every other week for the past couple months and have been selected about half of those times. I don't carry a rig and I'm not Arab. I think they "randomly select" by ticket actually. The lady showed me on the ticket the symbols that meant I would be selected. I asked her why I was selected so much and she told me to ask the airline because she had no idea. and about drinking... I usually have a glass of wine. BGill 0 #4 January 10, 2005 haha, i've ahmed's entire security screening on video that has to be one of the funniest things ive ever recorded. i mean i know it sucks you get pulled aside every time, but let's be honest, ahmed kurtom with a parachute on a plane, of course they're gonna check just to be safe. its not like youve got anything to hide. and yes, i drink on my flights, but thats only cuz you snuck the bottle of SoCo onto the plane. all your fault! GravityGirl 0 #5 January 10, 2005 I get randomly selected a lot. My husband is a pilot, and we have flight "benefits". So more often than not, we'll travel on a whim. Last minute booking send out a red flag..... I think. Also if your name shares a similar trait as one on the alert list, then it is a possible red flag as well. Warning: This is all rumor and speculation. Just what I have heard through the grapevine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! akurtom 0 #6 January 10, 2005 Well, just because I wanted to have a few drinks before we landed is not a bad thing. But when you drank a little too much and started talking about landing approaches the pilot was taking to random people on the plane, that became a problem. Poor poor steve (jumper03) who picked us up while we were in our drunken state. Blue Skies
gremlin 0 #7 January 10, 2005 I got pulled over at PHX trying to fly back to the UK. My rig was fine but when they swabbed my laptop it kept coming up positive for explosives. When I explained I deal with them in my job and that it was not surprsing there was a trace on my laptop they let me through - after giving me a pat down. I'm drunk, you're drunk, lets go back to mine....
vid666 0 #8 January 10, 2005 I'd say depending who i am travelling with and what am I dressed like. Never got screened with my wife. When I travelled with friends and had jeans with holes and old shirts on - got selected a few times. Last time I flew was 3 days before Christmas on a flight to NYC that I booked the night before ( ~~ 14 hrs in advance ) - both of us got screened. I think lack of any checked in or carry-on luggage was not to our benefit either :) ( we were picking up a car outside NYC and driving it back the same day)
billvon 3,095 #9 January 10, 2005 >having the name Ahmed doesnt help . . . Yep. We had an arab guy at Perris who changed his name to something like Tom Smith to keep from getting hassled at airports (and bars, and banks etc.)

gmanpilot 0 #11 January 10, 2005 Quoteand by drink, like bring bottle of liquor with you every time you travel? I don't know the TSA policy on opened/unopened liquor, but you might want to rethink b.y.o.b., and just buy it when you get to your destination._________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. mx757 4 #12 January 10, 2005 you can bring your own booze on plane, but there really is a FAR / FAA rule that it must be served by crew [F/A] I guess that's to limit you from getting drunk...
gmanpilot 0 #13 January 10, 2005 Quoteyou can bring your own booze on plane Yes, and given the circumstances, he may want to rethink doing that in the future if he wants to reduce his chances for additional scrutiny._________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap. slug 1 #16 January 10, 2005 Hi AK Lots of things have changed after 9/11 not just airplane travel. Some older women refuse to fly because they don't want to be violated (groped) by the airport screeners. We don't fly much but expect to be over cheked so we just dress for it I don'tknow if the security thing is directed specifically toward arab sounding names or people who look out of the mainstream. Could be a lot of reasons I.D. theft etc, going to the bank is a hassle. The way our country treated Japanese Americans after pearl harbor (relocation aka concentration camps) was disgraceful, so every tme you get hasseled just remember it was a lot worse the last time and hopefully it won't ever happen again. Don't drink. R.I.P.
Superman32 0 #17 January 10, 2005 If you are a hot girl you will get picked on I'm not a hot girl, but I've HAD hot girlfriends who are always stopped at every single security check. In a trip to Brazil, the poor girl had her flip-flops checked. It just makes you question to real motive when a girl is just wearing sandals, shorts and a tank top - no carry on. What could she possibly be hiding? I hate when they ask them to roll over the top of their pants (so they end up seeing their panties) They have even asked them to lift their shirts so their abs are exposed. Inveniam Viam aut Faciam I'm back biatches!
akurtom 0 #18 January 11, 2005 What I have learned is this.... 1. shave before going to the airport, sometimes i like to have a 5 oclock shadow because i hate shaving....they dont like that. 2. dont look shady, if they wanna check you, dont look nervous, of course after reviewing bgill's video taping of one of my screening, i looked too suspicious. 3. as far as the drinking thing, they really dont care, esp. when you fly southwest, its the ghetto airliner.....
