AggieDave 6 #1 January 11, 2005 Tonight I went to a Tae Kwon Do school for the first time in nearly 6 years, now I remember what my life has been missing. I had trained in Tae Kwon Do for 4 years before coming to college and a little bit while still in college, but its been a long time. Luckily its a smaller school and the master wants to work something out with me so I can train there, since I don't actually have the money for the training. Here's a great "small world" story, though. The master's name is Rober Smith, he teaches ABBA Tae Kwon Do. I took ABBA in Sherman (my home town) from a man named Rick Arnold. Come to find out him and Mr. Arnold are good friends and have tested together in Dallas for a couple of their black belt ranks (they're both 5th don Black Belts now). So the training is nearly the same, the techniques nearly the same and the katas and such are the same ones. So I get to keep my belt and continue on instead of having to start over...which is good, 4 years of training and hard work isn't wasted. Here's something else that kicks ass. Mr. Smith is a cop at the department I'm trying to get in, not only that but he's a training officer...beyond that he traines hand to hand at the Texas A&M Police Academy. So it sounds like he's going to be pulling for me during the application process and I'll be learning from him at the academy after that. This is so badass...I haven't been this excited about something since I first started skydiving. Whats even more fun is Morgan wants to start training as well, for the obvious benifits and the workout. Can you tell I'm freak'n motivated?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." flyingferret 0 #7 January 11, 2005 Awesome dude. Congrats. I miss it somedays. I should get back in someday, but I just can't at the current point in my career and life. Well...I could, but it is not top priority at the moment. I remember the adreneline bombs dropping before tournaments or belt tests. And I was in the best shape ever. Anyway, rock on with the small world connections. That is freakin awesome.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
Dougiefresh 0 #8 January 11, 2005 I've been meaning to go back to TKD school too, no money though. The only time I've had as much adrenaline flowing as during a dive was during a sparring match. And there's that same feeling of blissful exhaustion at the end. Have fun with it man.Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams
