WrongWay 0 #1 January 11, 2005 For some reason, every time I go into Speakers Corner, I see one thread that I want to throw a comment onto, then when I read through all of it, I get all these really bad vibes and get pissed about whatever the controversial issue of the day is. THEN, after writing a two page essay about whatever it is I'm pissed about, decide not to post it because it'll just fuel the fire, so I end up wasting tons of time and energy on a post that was never used, but I'm glad that I didn't dive into the pile of shit that was the conversation. kelel01 1 #2 January 11, 2005 ALL the time. But it's worse when you actually post it. Just type those feelings out, and then show them to no one, if you want to keep your sanity.

Darius11 12 #4 January 11, 2005 Yes bro. There was a time where I would post a lot in SC. I think I realized that there was no point as most have already made up there minds. Now when something really gets on my nerves I do exactly what your doing. It can't be a total waist of energy as little by little I am going in to SC less and less. Anybody else do this? That's so funny... I just did that. Well, I didn't quite write a two-page essay and wasn't actually pissed about anything... But I did see one post where I thought the person was so unbelievably incorrect that I felt the need to set them straight... So I did spend a bit of time writing a reply, only to delete it because I don't feel like getting into a pointless argument... And after deleting it, I immediately came to the Bonfire instead (and saw this thread).

ccowden 0 #10 January 11, 2005 I posted ONE time in Speakers Corner and wish I hadn't. It just makes me mad and you are never gonna change someone elses opinion, so why try. Now I don't even go in there.

Now I don't even go in there. I'm with you, Chris. I argued on one issue there once that I felt very strongly about, and it was a horrible experience. People even went as far as sending me PMs going off and trashing me because of a difference in opinion. I don't even open that forum anymore. It's better to just leave that junk alone. Shotgun 1 #13 January 11, 2005 QuoteI do that, but not just in SC...I do it here, and in other forums I visit. Yeah, I guess I do that sometimes in this and other forums too (especially when I start to post something that might be too personal, or something that might be offensive to someone)... but more often in SC because I know it will usually turn into an argument. It would be nice if we could have light-hearted and civil debates in SC, but it rarely turns out that way.

Yes, I would never bring up politics and religion at the DZ. Lol...I know exactly which thread that you posted in Chris. Did you know that he eventually said that we were right? I was a little shocked. The thread actually ended with everyone agreeing, believe it or not. The thing is...you can go into Speaker's Corner and not resort to name calling, nor degrading someone personally. It's best to discuss and debate topics/issues at hand, without getting all crazy or upset. Nobody's called me any names or degraded me personally in there. (I've been degraded much worse in Bonfire!) It pays to be polite and use common sense in there. Calling someone else derogatory names isn't going to get anyone to agree with you!
mr2mk1g 10 #18 January 11, 2005 For every time I hit "post reply" there's at least 2 or 3 written but thrown away. Not always cos they'll fuel an argument though... sometimes it's because I don't think people will get the joke over the net (eg sarcasm in text is really hard to convey). Nightingale 0 #19 January 11, 2005 you're not wasting time and energy, though. You're taking the time to think and analyze an issue that is important to you, even though you chose not to share your thoughts.
livendive 8 #20 January 11, 2005 QuoteI do that, but not just in SC...I do it here, and in other forums I visit. I do it somewhat frequently with emails at work. I'll write a relatively, umm, "straight-forward" response , save it to my outbox, and go home for the night. When I come back in the morning I usually end up toning it down or deleting it altogether. There have been a couple times where I still felt the same way the next day, so I sent them, but those are rare. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!"
