Job searches.....

Recommended Posts

Wow.......Why is searching for a job so annoying. I have my job search narrowed down to 2 companies now. I REALLY prefer one of them....just finished filling out their online resume. Now........we wait for them to call. This is worse than waiting on a chick that you are really smitten with to call. :S Oh well..........I have to go to work soon. Maybe that'll take my mind off it. At least I am not jobless and looking for a job. Haven't done that since I got out of the military. THAT.....really drove me nuts!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya, for what it's worth...

Thanks......I think I may need it to get the job I really want. It seems they have somewhat of a bias if you don't have one of 2 organizational names on your resume. Some days I wish I had just joined the Army.....others I wish I had gone with Dave to the Navy. Either way it would have made my job search easier. :S

Did you really just say that Clay?

Yeah.......I'm pretty chicken shit and if I ACTUALLY let my guard down enough to be hoping for a chick to call me....it'll be driving me nuts. :D

Let me know if you need any pointers on follow up or reasons to contact them.

I think this is pretty much a "If they call they want me....NOW.....if they don't....they don't." I was a little shocked when I used a back door with this company, provided by a friend, and it was promtply slammed in my face. :S I hear they are the best though......so I'm going to hold out for them.

Aww, i think our Clay is growing up.

Funny thing is.......one of the MAJOR reasons I want this new job. So I don't have to grow up. I kept thinking about the fact that I can't retire from my present job until I'm 52. FUCK THAT! I picked up a copy of Private Pilot the other day. It has a special report on an Aerocomp Comp Air 8 Amphibian. Looks a bit like a small Caravan on floats. The plane is floating on some Florida looking flats with a boat next to it, nice looking chicks in bikinis, and two guys fishing. I have now hung that pic up as inspiration for where I want to go in life. That needs to be me!!!!!!! B|

Look at the pics attached, i can adapt to that lifestyle...

That's just a Cessna though. The Compair is a turbine! B|

I just want to prove that winning the powerball won't change me...

Like that poor bastard in W Virginia who's life has become pretty much a complete disaster since he won. :S

I'd like to search for a new job, but this one has perks:

*I drive their car (no car payment, no insurance)
*Get extra time off to go to CRW stuff
*Play on the internet 9-7

Of course, it has it's downsides too:

*Work 'til 7
*Work on Saturday
*Commission only

The worst thing is that if I quit, I'd have to buy a car and insurance just to get to the new job.

Ah well, I guess until another job jumps into my lap, I'm just too lackadaisical to look.

Good luck on your hunt, Clay.

I get emails every six months from recruiters, "Haven't talked to you... are you looking ?"
If you respond, then they have a new and accurate database. Some just want to tell companies, "Look, I have 800 clients in my db for you."

If I don't get a response in 5 days, I forget about them. Real recruiters with real jobs are like sharks waiting for that email to fall into the water.

This industry is a bit differen't. The "recruiters" work directly for the companies. There's really only 2 companies in this business that I would consider working for......and one that I avoid like the plague. Out of the 2.....one of them is FAR superior to the other. It's owned by some guys that have the TOP resume's in the world for this kind of work. The other is OK but it's just a HUGE corporation. Now....when I was trying to find a job in the computer industry.......yeah......people called me several times a week. This industry is a MUCH smaller world.

Welcome to Recruiting 101. Funny thing about that - when I broke the rules and did it my own way I was much more successful than when I played the game like everyone else. Now that I am back to playing the game by my rules I am on the path to being successful. I may not get as many leads, but my conversion rate is above 80%!

Recruiters that work for consulting firms are not your friends. Don't trust them and don't use them if you don't have to. Corp recruiters are a different breed.

You should move to DC. I didn't get one REAL offer in 6 months in Michigan. Moved to DC... got there Monday evening... had 6 interviews this week alone... and a bunch more scheduled for next week. The difference in job markets is shocking to say the least.

Good luck sheep boy! I miss you! :)
