rhino 0 #3 January 14, 2005 One of the best things I learned or at least had confirmed by that book was that you can de-program just about anything. I use to have what could only be described as anxiety attacks due to all the court crap and the constant stress. I would get this feeling in the pit of my stomach and just worry. For no reason at all. If I didn't have a reason I thing that worried me too. Stupid eh? I was stuck. Considering medication. I wanted to see if I could manage and stop these things myself. I learned that it was possible and how to do it. Initially I would go into a dark place. Turn off the lights. Take deep breaths and tell myself with each exhale that everything is o.k. and I have nothing to worry about.. It took a couple of weeks of doing this before I could close my eyes at my desk for a minute or so and get the same effect. A few weeks later I would simply take A deep breath and remind myself that everything is o.k... I had to effectively reprogram myself and LEARN that I didn't have to be in emergency mode. That is probably the first time I have ever really used meditation and autosuggestion to get immediate and noticeable results. Maybe that will help someone.... The book got me started on the right track.
gordy 0 #4 January 14, 2005 I sat an emotional intelligence test just there and I got 80%... I like the idea of what your speaking about there as it could be used for example in work when you are about to explode at one of the idiots that you work with etc! smiles 0 #5 January 14, 2005 Last week my son gave me from his book collection..."Emotional Intelligence-Why it can matter more than IQ" to read. I thought...hmmm, does he think his mom's IQ is hindered by emotions??? Anyhow haven't finished it yet-- right now reading "The Social Arts chapter...Emotional brilliance ....If the test of social skill is the ability to calm distressing emotions in others, then handling someone at the peak of rage is perhaps the ultimate measure of mastery.." freeflycracker 0 #7 January 14, 2005 Ive noticed I seem to have a problem controlling my emotions at times when its just plain vital that I do so. LOL(dont tell anyone I have emotions). I thought some meds might help. But I always viewed drugs as a way to escape reality, not handle it better. CNN link seems to make sense though. Ill give the book a go. Any other titles you found especially helpful?
