Phantom, Neverland, or Life Aquatic?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to the movies with a friend this afternoon and trying to decide what to see. She mentioned "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Finding Neverland"... and I'm interested in "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou"... For anyone who has seen any of these, what did you think?

There's also an interesting movie showing called "Beyond Vanilla" but I don't think she'll be interested in that one. :) (And I was surprised to see anything like that showing out here! We usually only get the mainstream stuff.)

What is that one about, Keely? I like unusual movies, so if the reviews were good, then that's probably the one that I'd pick!

I saw Neverland with my kids and liked it, so did other adult friends that I talked to about it. I think it's up for awards too. I haven't seen the other movies to comment on them.

That one looks like the better of the two that she suggested. I don't really know much about Phantom of the Opera. It looks like it's a romantic story, and I don't usually care much for those (unless it is done really well).

The Life Aquatic was great... However, you have to have liked Royal Tannenbaums. It's a weird movie, but I loved it. It's an art piece, not a comedy. I'd reccomed it with the warning above.

Sounds exactly like the kind of movie I would like. :)

Both of my sisters hated Phantom with a passion.

If you liked Rushmore, see Life Aquatic

Yes, ice cream. That must be it.

:)

Wanna come out here and go to the movies with me? (Looks like tomorrow is the last day it's showing out here.)

Oh, I can't go there at all this week, Keely. :( I will definitely rent it when it comes out on DVD, though! (I know what it's really about...hehehe!) We really need to get together and go out, someday. I think we have similar interests! :)

I just realized "Beyond VANILLA" and "VANILLAskygirl"... Hmm, maybe it has something to do with Rosa! :):P

Rosa, Sorry you can't make it out. I'll let you know if it's any good. (Of course, if they're showing it out here, they've probably already shown it everywhere else in the world!) I will (supposedly) be in LA this Sat. or Sun., so PM me if you have time to hook up. (I know we're both bad about making plans, but I have a cell phone now... so I can be more spontaneous. ;))

Lol...silly! :P Well, I am in San Diego until Tuesday, since this is the last week that I have to share with Spencer before he goes to Iraq. I will probably be wanting to get together after he leaves, though. I'd love to hit some exhibits or movies or something.

Remi ~ I'm not sure what you mean, but that sound's gross!

Well, after asking for advice about these three movies... We ended up going to see the movie "Ray" - about Ray Charles. (The times didn't work out with the other movies.)

Wow, what a great movie! It was really well-made, and the music was great. A lot of it was pretty sad and depressing though... brought tears to my eyes at least a few times.

I just looked at the IMDB page for Beyond Vanilla.:o:ph34r:

Check out some of the casts links. You can see some of their previous movie titles. I got a good laugh out of some of them like "face invaders" and Buttwoman vs Buttwoman. Has anyone actually seen this? It sounds pretty much like soft porn with narration.

Heh...yeah, there are some "mainstream" porn actors in there, no doubt.

But there are also some interesting people listed there, such as Jay Wiseman, the author of "S&M 101". It would have been a better documentary if they would have other true non-vanilla people such as Midori. That woman can do some amazing things with Japanese rope bondage.:)

But, either way it's worth a look to me. I just ordered it from Amazon.

We were planning on going to see that movie last night, but I wasn't feeling well so we didn't go. That was the last night it was showing out here, so I may just order the DVD...

But when I went to Amazon to look at the DVD, of course it brought up all of these other things that I might like (similar items)... and I found so many that looked interesting I couldn't decide which ones to order! :)

The main reason I wanted to go to the theater to see it is because I was curious to see who else out here is going to see such movies.

YES...:D:D:D

Hey Keely, what if I had made it out that way, and you and I had gone and were the only two in the theatre? :D:D:D
Too funny!!!!

For the record, that is way more hard-core sounding that I would have thought. :o:$ I don't know about such things since I'm not a porn watcher (have seen porn, but it's not my thing). I'm not so sure about that film...maybe if I could see if with my boyfriend. You know, just so he could explain things to me...:)

Well if I buy the DVD, I'll let you borrow it. I'll watch it first of course to let you know if it is acceptable viewing. ;) (Some of it sounded a little hardcore for me too.)

That's funny, Rich and I were wondering the same thing when we were talking about going...

I did go to a movie once where my friend Bruce and I were the only ones in the theater. We were dancing in the isle some, and then one of us went and sat in the back while the other sat in the front and we yelled back and forth to talk to each other. (Yes, we are silly. :)
