funfall 0 #1 June 21, 2009 Does anyone know when the Vigil 3 is due to be released? Imminent, or just someday? I'm happy with the AAD I have (not Vigil), but need another for a new rig. I'd be more likely to wait and consider a Vigil, if the new one is coming soon. Part of my reason is future resale value - I'm guessing that Vigil 2s will lose value if there's an improved Vigil 3 available. Also, a new version will probably address some of my minor concerns about the present version. Thanks. --------------------------------------------- edited to add: Here's the post (in a Gear & Rigging thread last month) that got me thinking about this: "Now, the Vigil III is coming and the possibility of firing problems near the ground will be solved plus we will see some surprising new features." "Where did you get this info. from?" "The Vigil reps @ PIA 09 in Reno. "
hackish 8 #2 June 22, 2009 When I get an AAD I get it to keep it. Short of the rig getting stolen the AAD is entirely portable. I think you will find the depreciation on a Vigil is the same or less than a cypres. -Michael
NealFitz 0 #3 June 22, 2009 3 versions of a n AAD in short space of time Ill stick to my Vigil II Dudeist Skydiver #170 You do not need a parachute to skydive, you only need one to skydive again
funfall 0 #4 June 22, 2009 I've been told privately that the release date for the next Vigil isn't yet known by dealers, and probably won't be until it really is imminent. I'd say the lack of replies here tends to confirm that. So I'll make my comparisons between available AAD models, rather than waiting for the next Vigil. QuoteWhen I get an AAD I get it to keep it. I didn't make it clear, but I'm keeping my current AAD. A new one would go in the old backup or new rig. I may decide to sell the old container and one AAD in the next year or two, which is why early depreciation is a consideration.
rhys 0 #5 June 22, 2009 They had better sort the niggles out, another vigil 2 fired prematurely yesterday at 5000' luckily it was a flatfly round and everybody was in. I am liking aad's less and less, it seem the more modern they get the more mishaps happen. cypres2 is not off the hook either, last year a friend had one fire under canopy (tandem) after he had been flying the parachute for 3 or more minutes. The owner of 'argus' told me the sensor units that were at fault(in my mates cypres fire) are used by "ALL" of the modern aad manufacturers so any of them are as likelyas each other to fail. erdnarob 1 #6 June 22, 2009 The Vigil III is supposed to be released in 2010. A new feature will be, as said, that it will not fire near the ground under any circumstances. I have an idea of other original features but so far I cannot speak. I am pretty sure the Vigil III is now finnished but who will blame Vigil to make a series of testing in all kinds of possible conditions. We are happy to get a product which gives us satisfaction but we often forget that several elements need to be done like: design, manufacturing, testing, modifying, testing again, marketing and last but not least field testing...Learn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all. LouDiamond 1 #7 June 23, 2009 2010 is a safe bet at the moment. However, until everything is deemed ready for release, it's hard to accurately estimate at this time when it will actually debut."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
