Post your lid paintjob!!

Recommended Posts

Hello! :)
I could do with a bit of a hand.

I have managed to get hold of an Oxygen full face lid and I want to get it sprayed with a custom paintjob. Most of my kit is black with bits of orange and yellow.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to what to have on there? Soemthing quite lighthearted would be good (e.g A friend of mine had "Passengers are kindly requested to refrain from shouting, crying or falling off whilst this vehiclie is in motion" sprayed in small lettering on the back of his motorcycle helmet which I thought was hilarious)

If you have any pix of your lid with a custom paintjob then could you post them to give me some ideas??

Also, if anyone in the UK can recommend a good artist/company that does this work then I would be grateful!

Thanks!!

Adam.

PM ZoneRat and ask him to send you pics of his helmet. His helmet is by far the most detailed custom painjob on a skydiving helmet I've ever seen in my life!

As for places to do it, a LOT of custom motorcycle shops can do that sort of work, they do it for ricers all the time.

For me, I'd rather not waste my money on a paint job, I'll slap some stickers on it and be done. That way when it gets scratched, dropped or lost I'm not freak'n out due to a lost $500 paint job and a helmet.;)

Thanks AggieDave,

The problem is that the lid is BLUE! It's a minter so it will spray up nicely.

Know what you mean though, you would never ever chip a standard lid covered in stickers but as soon as you get a custom job done, you drop it, it rolls down the street and get's run over by a truck...

Something you can do is paint it yourself.

Figure out a design you want and mask off the helmet and spray it, if you don't have a spray gun and such, you can use high end rattle can (spray paint) stuff and get a decent looking helmet.

I'm sure if you google around a bit, you can get a quick briefing on the ins and outs of masking and painting (if you've never done it before).

It'll help if you spary a good clearcoat over your paintjob once you're done as well.;)

This was my helmet (Z1) only I found out after I had it painted that I really really didn't like fullface helmets :S

The original helmet was grey with a pic of a baked egg with a large blowfly on it! Didn't like that so had it sprayed purple and Garfieldiefied it ;)

Also attached the pic of the original tattoo I had the girl who did the artwork copy.

The problem is that I have the artistic talent of a cluster of colour-blind hedgehogs in a bag

I'm not that artistic as well, I'm not good at freehanding stuff, but I can and have cutout templets, traced them onto a heavier paper, then used that templet to lay down a masking outline with thin tape and worked from there. It basically means you have to spend more time planning and doing to make it happen.

Something else you can do is go to a vinal sign shop and have them laser cut out a design you want to use. Stick it to your helmet and spray over it all, use a razor blade and carefully cut the pain around the vinal templet and carefully pull it up.

I bet you learn something and have fun doing this.;)

Not quite as much fun......but do a search on yell.co.uk....
People who offer this service are ten a penny these days in the UK......of course if you want a full lid custom job its gonna cost.
But a simple design/motif are cheap.....and you will get exactly what you want.
Take what idea you want to them.......and it will e even cheaper.

As I said ....not as much fun.....but saves the hassle

Not the user logout sigline. :o Aggiedave, really. I never knew about this mischievous streak of yours.

P.S. the reason that I am all so happy today is I got a whopping 132 seconds of freefall in 2 jumps. Man... December was so lame. You know what it's like - bloke can't get it so gets frustrated then gets it and has a big silly grin on face for the rest of the day.
