CLINICAL FALSE PREGNANCY and my dog

Recommended Posts

My dog is tripping me out I have a blue healer cattle dog she has never had doggy sex, but after her puppy periods she acts like a mommy. She has tons of toys, but when she is post periodish she nurtures this rubber duck it like it was a puppy. Last night she spent 10 minutes scratching and turning in circles on her mat then she went and got her duck and 3 balls placed them in the middle of the hole she made, nudged them with her nose then curled up adound them and licked the duck. It is amazing at how engrained instincts are. I asked her if she was gonna hatch them or something. She is soo cute!!!

Once my Lhasa Apso, who was spayed, dug up a bunch of baby moles and tried to take care of them as though they were her puppies....it was really funny. Of course the moles died.

We had a collie do that and an old beagle- long after she was spayed would do the same thing. Kind of strange! The beagle had some other odd habits too- like hiding food. We found her after she had obviously been on her own for quite a while and that feeling of not knowing where your next meal is coming from never goes away!

Mine tries to bury food. She will put all her toys on top of her food bowl to hide it. One time there was some newspaper that blew in the yard and was covering her food bowl. I went outside and moved the paper, and left it there for her to trash up. I come back later and she had moved it back over the food, and would lift the paper up with her nose and eat under it then cover it back up.:D

Our beagle didn't just bury food, she would hide it- and weird stuff too. My mom gave her leftover noodles once and she hid them in my mom's bed under the sheets! Can you imagine climbing into bed and there's a pile of cold noodles at your feet? Yuk! It was my mom's own fault for trying to feed that crap to the dog anyway!;)
