Good to see they went with a full upgrade - I skipped on Battlefield Vietnam but loved BF1942. I may hold off on buying it when it comes out - that will be jumping season and I have a stack of games I am playing thru right now. That may change since we are going to get 8 or 10 more inches of snow this weekend - looks like I am staying in and gaming all weekend. Slappie 9 #4 January 20, 2005 I've migrated from the BF1942 and installed the Desert Combat mod. The design team that did the DC mod have been working on BF2. DiCE bought them because their Desert Combat mod was a huge success. Kinda like the HL: CS mod scenerio. Make and awesome mod, everyone plays it. You make lots of money when the game company buys the rights to your code. ChasingBlueSky 0 #5 January 20, 2005 Are those the same guys that made the mod for BF Vietnam? (kinda full circle making a WWII mod, no?) Have you ever tried to even make a level? In college we used to make our own maps for Doom and Doom 2, but once they started making levels that had true depth to them it became hard to do. When I saw the first true total conversion (Aliens for Doom) I realized I never had a chance in that industry. I picked up the UT2K4 special edition with the DVD that teaches you step by step on how to create everything for a level and I am still in the second lesson. I just don't have the time or patience to do that much detailed work. It's always nice to hear stories about gamers that get hired from their mods - but those stories are rare. Part of the problem is that there are too many terrible mods to work your way thru, esp when you have some someone that hacked apart the engine to change some rules of the game. edit to add: I'd love to work in the game industry but all the jobs are in CA and I'm not in the mood to think about moving anywhere right now. To this day I still kick myself in the ass for quitting a job as a paid beta tester for Battletech - I was in college and my mind was more on the newmedia than gaming._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... bch7773 0 #6 January 20, 2005 yeah i have desert combat mod, and its alright. If you like it, get the DCX mod... its got even more weapons, vehicles, and cool realistic stuff. Like 2 seater planes, with the second guy being the bombandier, and he also controls flares to deflect missles. But the new BF2 graphics look amazing compared to desert combat. but you know the minimum system is gonna have to be a 3 ghz or something obscene to make it look that good. Speaking of SC:B I wonder why Blizzard went with the Warcraft series and never made an SC2 or SC3. Instead opting to go with that very weak FPS version of SC. There is a group out there who is trying to make a complete conversion of WC3 into a SC conversion. They're having a time with Blizzard because Blizzard is trying to hold them back from hacking the WC3 code. Calling it proprietary information. I mean Bliz had a point. But these guys (an gals) aren't trying to make money. They like me just wanted to see Blizzard extend Starcraft. I still load SC: B up sometimes and go battle it out on Bnet. Even after 7 years it's one of my favorite RTS games. It has a sandbox mode where you can take all the time and money you want to build a park and/or scenario (no more hacking to do that). Unlike the multiplayer-focused Quake 3: Arena, Quake IV will center on its single-player campaign, picking up on the Strogg storyline from Quake 2. However, multiplayer is also planned, and while we don't yet have the foggiest idea what special plans Raven might have in store, the company has made it clear that it wants to live up to the multiplayer lineage of the series.
