Real quick-does anybody know Ralph Hatley's website?

You mean "Call Ralph, cause he know's there is a sucker born every minute?"

The same "Call Ralph" that cuts the end cells out and put his own advertising on your chute? "1-800-Call-Ralph" instead of "Sabre" "Sabre2" or whatever ...

Wouldn't that void the TSO?

Main canopies are not TSOed.

He pops the stitches on the name plate and sews his own on. Its perfectly legal, just "odd." I know I don't want that done to a canopy I'm buying, but that's just me.

You can call someone else if you want to pay more. Ralph has the best prices and more gear in stock than anyone. Most dealers won't let you return gear if you don't like it. If you go to his DZ the amount of gear he has in stock is just mind-boggling.

Last year I bought a complete rig from Ralph and I saved at least $600. (for instance the infinity container was $995, square 1 wants $1300 for the same. The Cypress 2 was $1000, most dealers sell them for $1300 and up)

As far as the "Call Ralph" patch on the end cells; I have only seen that on his student rigs and demo canopies. He has that done at the factory, Ralph is way to busy to be sewing patches on every rig he sells.

He is a character for sure and I know he rubs some folks the wrong way, but when it comes to gear sales he can't be beat.

I know people who have been unhappy about something or another. I can understand the complaints about the stabilizer patches, but not when people freak out over what he offers for their used gear. He's the customer in that situation...if you don't like what he offers, sell to someone else. He doesn't owe you anything for your used gear.

Personally, I've bought 3 complete rigs from him (2 new, custom jobs; 1 used but in great condition). I have gotten great prices, and have had no complaints about the service whatsoever.

I have had good luck with Ralph as well...

As long as you shop around and compare prices and KNOW what you aare looking for he is great to deal with.

A trip to his DZ is an interesting return to what a DZ was like when I started jumping a LONG time ago.

And the ride to Altitude in the DHC-2 Beaver.. is MEMORABLE

I as well have purchased gear from Ralph at his DZ. His inventory probably wouldnt fit in most DZ's hangers. Ralph is also, IMHO, old school. Putting his Inventory on the internet just not his style. Give him a ring, tell him what you want and he'll know. Its toll free isn't it?

anybody detracting about Ralph doesnt know him.

My knowledge of him comes from calling him up to buy gear a few years ago. Lets just say it wasn't a pleasent experience to say the least.[:/]

So the moral of the story is I will never do business with him and I will express my experience with anyone who asks.

Oh, I'm sure. Ha!

The point is that he's done good, he's done bad just like any businessman. During the Ralph love fest I wanted to state that there are other opinions that aren't scuttlebutt.;)

yeah yeah, I've heard enough, don't think I'll be calling the guy. I just want to do business w. people who I hear more GOOD things about then bad. :S

Before you get too hasty, you might want to consider the sources of what you hear. I'm not going to go search for all the threads on dz.com that mention Ralph, but so far, on this thread, detractors have a combined 16 years in sport, and proponents have a combined 94 years in sport. Maybe relevant, maybe not.

Buying gear can be stressfull, especially to a relative newcomer. It's a major expense and it involves your safety. If you want to bounce something off someone, feel free to shoot me a PM. I'll help in any way I can.

Dave

Edit: Notice the avatar change? Eyes only...hopefully they won't kill as many threads. ;)

Yes thats true......but.....dont you think in Ralphs 40+ years of selling gear he has done a lot more good than bad ? Satisfied a lot more people than he pissed off ?
Just because you had a bad experience doesnt necessarily have to be Ralphs fault. You might have come off to him as an arrogant asshole and he reciprocated.
I bought my first brand new rig from Ralph 23 years ago.....and a half dozen since then. If one calls Ralph, and knows what he/she needs you wont be disappointed.
