Jan. 21st and I already did my taxes!

Recommended Posts

Turbo Tax ROCKS! I just spent about 15 minutes online doing my taxes and it was so damn easy. I'm usually the type to wait until the day before their due and scramble like mad to get them done but not this year!

I get money back too!

Can't wait to do taxes. Last year we got $3k back... is that the gear fairy I hear? What, the IRS is the gear fairy now?

Argh. I don't get this. That's YOUR money! Increase your deductions and save your own money during the year.

No, I mean increase them. If you are currently Single, zero dependents (deductions), you need to crank a dependent in there so that you keep more of your paycheck and put it into your 401K or whatever.

If somebody is getting 3 grand back, they are making the government an interest-free loan of about $250 every month. If that money was plugged into a fund, then over the years it will add up to serious money.

I would rather have control of my money during the year and get a refund from the Feds that pays my California taxes owed.

I agree for two reasons, one real, the other conspiratorial:
1 - The IRS is not your friend. Why would you want to give them a $3000 interest-free loan?

2 - I've always thought of overpayment as an automatic red flag that you're not paying enough taxes. There's probably some group of geeks sitting somewhere looking at who has how much coming back. By overpaying, and living long enough to collect your refund, you're simply proving to them that you can survive without that money. And if YOU don't need it, they'll gladly find someone else to give it to. [:/]:D

Deuce that's exactly what my boss tells me each year! You're a smart man.
