So, settle our dispute...do you flip or flick someone a bird? She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

Nataly 38 #3 January 25, 2005 Well, I'd have to say "flip" the bird. Though I'm an expert on *doing* it, I'm not really an authority on how it's said "properly" "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

IanHarrop 43 #5 January 25, 2005 QuoteYou flip 'em the bird, but you flick 'em off! I agree with Vallerina but did a google search on flick the bird and found quite a few references. It surprised me. Of course I just refer to it like Mr. Bean did - "The Hawaiian Friendship Salute""Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
Zennie 0 #6 January 25, 2005 When I saw the subject, my response was flick, but I oftentimes flip while I'm flickin'. Yes, that is one of the irritating things about word usage. A lot of what is "correct" is just what is in widespread use. Word definitions are changed in dictionaries as they acquire new meanings through common usage, even though that would have be "incorrect" when first used.
