dogs let you think that they are your friends, but all they are after is food. Cats on the other hand have attitude they make you work for their affection, thus making you appriecate them that much more.

I agree... I have three cats and a dog. The dog shows all kind of affection but especially when their is food around. The cats come to me genuinely when they want snugglies.

I guess each situation is a bit different. My dogs DO NOT get snuggly when food is around. They may stare at me when its time for them to eat, but that is about it. They do get snuggly all the time, but it is not in anyway related to food. But this is also due to the fact they ARE NOT ever given people food from a plate, from the table from the couch etc. If I give them a piece of steak or chicken it goes into their food dish, and that is only on VERY VERY special occasions.

My Husky Dakota is the most snuggly dog on the planet with anyone and everyone....My Shiba Inu Nikki though aloof at times especially with people she doesnt know...is the most lovable thing on the planet. If mom is sad...Nikki is right there by my side :)

You are right.. I have conditioned my dog to do that.. I would sneak him scraps under the table.

He's a pound puppy and I love him but I'm more of a cat person. So.. I blame his imperfections on him and not my doggie owner capabilities.;) even though we both know I am the cause..:P

Dogs. Loveable, likeable, snuggly...when you're down they are there for you. 100% unconditional love.

Oh...and moth...dogs are not just snuggly around food unless you (generic you) have trained them to be so. When I had my dogs, they only got people food on very rare and special occasions and only in their food dish and only after I was done eating.

And, eeneR's dogs are so sweet...even Nikita. :)

I used to hate cats but recently I got a 9 week old female who's a orange and white ball of joy. Stupid Walgreens screwed up the CD so I won't have pics to post till today.

I'd have to say I'm a fan of both now. I'll update with pics of the new baby cat.

There is a lot of truth to that, but there is at least one dog breed who is absolutely devoted to his master. An Australian Cattle Dog, "Blue Heeler", is an incredibly good friend.

I have to agree, Fox is not food motivated, she is family motivated. She actually won't go in the kitchen to eat unless one of us is in there with her, she just wants to stay with us. It drives her nuts when we are at opposite ends of the house cause she can't figure out how to get both of us in the same room again. (herding doesn't work on us. ;))

Remember when we had to leave both Fox and Rose in the van when we were climbing? That drove them both crazy not to be with us.

BTW, how is that harness coming?

simple dogs or cats youre favorite and why

I like dogs, they are loyal to the extreme.

With cats you either bring food or you are food. There are countless cases where old ladies die alone and the cat starts missing dinner. A friend of the family was a coroner and he said he hated going to a house where somebody died and they had cats.

A dog will stand over your cold dead body and protect you till he can't stand anymore. Reminds me of the saying "A friend will bail you out of jail, a good friend will be in there with you."

That's because dogs are pack animals, and once you've established your dominance over them, that's it. It helps also that most dogs are as dumb as a box of hair.

A cat is a super predator, and an obligate carnivore. It cannot survive on food other than meat. In fact, a vegetarian diet will kill a cat in about 3 to 4 days unless a huge amount of expensive additives are put in the food. Apart from lions, they are non gregarious, and don't establish heirarchies the way dogs do. They establish territory instead, and tend to defend it at 3 in the morning outside my fucking bedroom window. A cat left alone with your dead ass and an empty food bowl will regard you as a buffet. It doesn't really have a loit of choice at that point.

Another interesting fact about our little friends is that they are the only animal in history to have domesticated themselves. They ain't daft.

Hmmm...I don't think Derek started on it yet, but I better make her one so she doesn't have to climb up the wall after me without a rope. That scared the heck out of me when she started scrambling up the rock fall after me when I was looking to see of the climbing area was on the other side.

Our girls are definate momma's babies. I'd say we should meet up at the dog park by mile high so they can play, but since they won't play with other dogs cause they think they are human it would probably be a waste of time. :P

Just to add I also have a cat and a bearded dragon and I have to say the dragon is probably the coolest. Talk about "it's all about the food" this little guy will eat the mango rind if you don't cut up the fruit fast enough.

EXACTLY..... Dogs just respond to commands... "come, stay, sit, speak." Women have that power over us too. "Pick me up at 8, wash your hands before you play with me...."
Cats on the other hand hear what you tell them, but make decisions for themselves..... "Wanna check out my mattress... I just flipped it....." "No Thanks". It all makes perrrfect sense!
