GTAVercetti 0 #26 January 27, 2005 QuoteQuoteI wanted to visit certain places in Europe on a backpack trip while my friends wanted to go other places. That is really cool! I wish I would have the time to do that! Yes, it was very cool. I met ALOT of interesting people. And since I was by myself, I had to learn little bits of the languages so I could talk. If you ever get the chance, do not hesitate. And either go alone or keep the group small. If you go alone, you get to do all the stuff YOU want to do and miss all the crap you don't care about. Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing. Adrock 0 #30 January 27, 2005 Quote Good for you! Every boogie that I have ever attended, I have gone by myself beginning when I had about fifty jumps or so. Sometimes, I don't even know anyone there. It is a great way to meet new people to jump with and a way to not have bias against certain groups because you are there to meet everyone and make your own decisions. Btw, hope to meet you, Adrock! Thanks, Rosa! I completely agree with you.

NWFlyer 2 #38 January 27, 2005 QuoteSo, do you do things on your own? Do you feel weird about it? I've done lots of things on my own, and I don't really think about it (until someone's shocked about it.) When I bought my house two years ago, my real estate agent said "Good for you for not waiting for a man to buy a house." I was shocked that people even think that way in this day and age - I waited till I was ready to buy a house, but it had nothing to do with waiting for a man! I do a lot of things alone and lately I've started even more. I agree that it forces you to be a little more outgoing and to try to connect with other people more, but you can also meet some cool people that way. I started skydiving alone (and in fact didn't even tell any of my friends I was going when I did my FJC) and also did my two scuba certification classes by myself. When I learned to snowboard, I'd ride up with friends sometimes, sometimes by myself, but always go off into a class by myself since my friends were more experienced than me. No problem at all going up alone, either. Sometimes, it's just too much effort to spend the time organizing a bunch of people (and with a lot of my friends, unless I do the organizing and nagging, stuff doesn't happen. One other thing I've done lately is I'll sign up for something and say "This is when I'm doing X... sign up if you wanna come with." Sometimes I get people sometimes I don't."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

livendive 8 #50 January 27, 2005 QuoteBut, think about it, when you go out to a movie or dinner with other people, how often do you actually notice or pay mind to people that are there alone? Exactly why I wonder how it became common to take a date to a movie. Asking them out on a date is essentially saying you want to spend some time with them. Taking them to a movie means you want to spend that time ignoring them. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
