break the rules?

Recommended Posts

My project would be much much much easier if there weren't policy rules for the use of equipment. I've been a good boy for 2.5 years now, but time is quickly running out. Should I just break the rules? I could most likely do it without anyone ever knowing. The consequences for getting caught are serious and would probably result in my exit from school without a degree. However, if I get caught after the fact, I'm home free.

Opinions?

Oh, and if you're reading this and know what I'm talking about, I didn't do it. :D

I'd rather have them kick me out than leave with my tail between my legs. Either way I'm w/out a degree and with 3 less years in my life. At least I can say I left it all on the field if I do everything in my power to be successful.

And the benefits for being successful are big, both money-wise and for my self esteem.

Just finish your project by the rules and get the degree.

If you're in a time crunch, check with your professor/dean and ask about taking an incomplete to get a time extension for a semester.

If you've already put 3 years in, just do what it takes to walk out the door with that piece of paper that says you've graduated. It'll help you in the long run.

An example: A friend of mine at my last job left school before he got his degree, figuring he'd make more money if he just started work. Well, he and I did the exact same job. I got paid over $10,000 per year more, just because I had a degree. We were doing exactly the same thing, and honestly, he was probably a little better at it than I was. However, what it came down to is that I had a degree and he didn't, and it was reflected in our paychecks.
