The last "big" concert I went to I got there a little before the gates opened, so I could enjoy the energy of the crowd, the "die hard fans" getting worked up and claim my spot in the "open seating" which at the Starplex in Dallas is a large grass berm behind the "expensive" seats.

All in all it was WELL worth doing it that way. I got to meet some really interesting and fun people as well as have a very good time.:)

Depends on the venue. They have rules about when you can start to wait in line. If you want to be close you will have to wait hours before the gates ever open.

In July of '93 I waited 9 hours outside of Soldier Field to get good seats for Pearl Jam. I still had to wait thru two opening acts brining it to a total of 11 hours waiting. The end result? Front Row.

Back in 1992, I went and seen Metallica, The Cult and Suicidal Tendencies in Neurenburg Germany, We got there at 9:00 the night before and got in line. The let us in at 4:00 in the afternoon.

We ended up in the front row, right in front of James Hetfield.
