- being excessively unreasonable
- making constant snide comments about things they don't like
- being mean to someone just cause they are new

Things of that nature. For girls, they get the bitch label. For guys they get called a dick. Assholes? Well, we all got em, so I use the term indiscriminately

I agree with your post. Not every woman who is confident , has strong viewpoints/beliefs, shows strength/determination or is intelligent is called a bitch.

Look at some of the intelligent and confident women here, like Wendy (rocket scientist) or Amy (physician). I am sure that they have been all those things (confident, expressed opposed viewpoints/beliefs, shown strength/determination, etc.) at some point, but I'll bet that men and women alike go to them for all kinds of advice. I doubt that either one of them is called a bitch just for being confident, and I am also willing to bet that many, many people both respect and think highly of them.

It's not what you do, such as being confident or standing up for yourself, that is a problem. Sometimes, the true problem is how you do it. That is when people truly fall into the "bitch" or "asshole" category.
