meatbomb 0 #1 June 12, 2004 All, It is with great sadness that I have to inform you all that Andy Frew, secretary of Skydive Strathallan, passed away last night at Monklands Hospital. Andy suffered a setback yesterday, slipping back into a coma, and the medical staff advised his family that there was no more that they could do for him. Andy passed away at 10:30 last night. Andy never gave up, despite being dealt some of the cruellest blows imaginable, and had the club and skydiving foremost in his heart to the end. Only a fortnight ago, the first thing he communicated to me when I visited him, was that I'd better make sure the Club Achievements went into the Mag on time! I will post funeral arrangements as soon as I have them. freeflynick 0 #3 June 14, 2004 This is awful news......poor Andy - I had no idea he was so ill - I hadn't heard about his haemorrhage or his subsequent struggle, but I know he would have been going on with the determination and strength we all admired him for. I remember Andy back in his early freefall progression days at Stirling Parachute Center when we measured his jumps in RPM rather than in seconds of freefall! When he first turned up for his training, we were all asking where his parents were, and if the instructors had checked his ID, because he looked so young, but we soon realised that this quiet, shy kid had a huge heart and was determined to get good at this skydiving lark, and soon Andy was seen at the DZ more often than the CCI! Although I haven't seen Andy since I moved to the US in 2001, I was thoroughly looking forward to seeing him again on my next visit. I guess that meeting will have to wait a little longer now, but on my next night jump I will be looking out for him - that new, brightly shining star winking down from the Eternal DZ....... You are already missed so much and by so many. Peace, Andy. Nick.

GillyP 0 #6 February 2, 2005 Hi all, Very shocked and saddened to hear this news (belatedly). I know when people lose a friend or loved one they always say that they were "liked by everyone they met", but in Andy's case - this really was true. I too started skydiving at Stirling DZ along with Andy, and his shy and friendly manner was always welcome. He was one of few skydivers who genuinely didn't know what "ego" meant, and was always helpful to newcomers to the sport, even when he became pretty good in the air himself (despite his stature not lending itself well to aerobatics). The sport of skydiving is all the poorer for the loss of wee "Frew-man-chew"!! Blue skies mate. Gillies.
