D22369 0 #1 January 27, 2005 DZ give go arounds if the spot gets long or is off the windline? Most of the dropzones I have been to will, but I have encountered several that only give one drop.....get out or ride the plane down.... RoyThey say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #2 January 27, 2005 Any more than five groups and 15 people and we are generally taking a second pass at Raeford. Actually, it's really rare that we don't do two passes.
sunshine 2 #3 January 27, 2005 Skydive Chicago is the best about that. Our pilots will give another pass. Nice to know they're concerned with our safety and landing on the DZ instead of out somewhere else. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! Brains 2 #4 January 27, 2005 Ours will sometimes. However, we put our tandems out at 10,500 to give the ti's and vidiots time for back to backs while the rest of us go to 13,500. It works well and lessens the chance of a long spot from too many small groups. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.
larsrulz 0 #5 January 27, 2005 My first night jump I was spotting and busy staring out the door, and the pilot just flashed the jump light so it didn't mess with our night vision. Since I was busy checking the spot, I didn't notice the flash, and of the other two jumpers left in the plane, the one that noticed didn't say anything. So eventually we were obviously long, so we got a second go around (the first was intentional). No complaint, the pilot was just wondering what the hell had happened. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
AggieDave 6 #6 January 27, 2005 Quote DZ give go arounds if the spot gets long or is off the windline? Yup, definately. But in a 182 if you need a go around because the first group took too long...then something is very wrong in that picture.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #8 January 27, 2005 Its also very possible to get a midget in tow while climbing out on the step, but we try to limit those scenerios.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Nightingale 0 #9 January 27, 2005 Perris and Elsinore both give go-arounds, no problem. Sure, if someone's really f-ing up and taking minutes to exit or just being a moron or asshole, someone'll talk to them, but if the spot just ends up long due to a plane full of solos or lots of small groups, a go around is no big deal. The green light goes out, you sit down, the plane turns, green light goes back on, you jump.

VanillaSkyGirl 6 #13 February 7, 2005 Oh Gia, as long as I've jumped at Elsinore, Karl has done 2nd passes (with no complaining) whenever they are needed, for sure! Then again, it's been so long since I've had to find out about something like that because I am usually in the first group or groups going out the door! ~BTW, I LOVE KARL, and I LOVE ELSINORE! ~
GiaKrembs 0 #14 February 7, 2005 Miss Ro, I hope you didn't feel like I was bashing Karl / or Elsinore.... It wasn't meant as that... Like I said I so love him. I know I have my bitchy days... Ya I probably experience it more as I tend to solo freefly and am last out the door unless there are students and tandems. VanillaSkyGirl 6 #16 February 8, 2005 I've NEVER seen you bitchy, Gia! I cannot imagine you that way at all. Also, I know that you weren't bashing anyone. (You are so cute.) I was just complimenting Karl and my beloved Elsinore...
livendive 8 #17 February 8, 2005 QuoteHA...... I remember you ducking back into the airplane once to say "at least have them warm up the truck".........LOL Ha Ha! OK, that was pretty funny looking back on it. But, this thread is about go-arounds. You have to go over the DZ at least once before you can go-around and try it again! Nice to know they're concerned with our safety and landing on the DZ instead of out somewhere else. Same with my home DZ here. I have never heard a gripe about a request for a go 'round. I love our pilots! I have heard on more than one occassion a polite, insistent, "Go, go, go, get out NOW...please." -Gotsta make sure we're keeping our cloud clearance minimums now and then in our NW weather. <--I have never had an instance of landing out or even a thought of not making it back to the LZ during one of these. It was just not time to hang out and have a party on the step. However, we do pay attention to our elders () and try to make the most of our order before we load the plane to minimize additional passes. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Peej 0 #19 February 8, 2005 We jump a Porter at home so it's not like there are loads of people in front of the freefliers. In fact i don't think i've ever had to ask for one. I can't see it being a problem though. Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
