ladyskydiver 0 #1 February 8, 2005 Yep...it's official. I'm CPR certified. It's been quite a few years since I was certified so I got recertified tonight and will be getting recertified in First Aid on Wednesday. It's a great skill to have, but one I hope I never have to use. Figure, however, that it's better to have the skill and not need it....than need it and not have it.Life is short! Break the rules! wildcard451 0 #12 February 8, 2005 Smartass......here is the rest of my favorite rules...now if I could only remember where they came from: 1. Air goes in and out, blood goes round and round, any variation on this is a bad thing. 2. The more equipment you see on a EMTs belt, the newer they are. 3. When dealing with patients, supervisors, or citizens, if it felt good saying it, it was the wrong thing to say. 4. All bleeding stops....eventually. 5. All people will eventually die, no matter what you do. 6. There will be problems. 7. You can't cure stupid. 8. When a patient vomits outside, be sure to aim it at the citizens who wouldn't back up. 9. If there are no drunks at an MVA after midnight, keep looking, someone is missing. 10. When in doubt, do CPR

Lindsey 0 #16 February 8, 2005 QuoteFirst Aid is easy. If it's bleeding, just cut it off. Works every time. And if they're bleeding profusely from the head, tie a tourniquet around the neck and wait for the ambulance to arrive... linz-- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. Deuce 1 #18 February 8, 2005 I was walking my beat with my partner when this car crashed into a light pole RIGHT in front of us. One of those coolio wierd things that happen to cops . Anyhow, we walk over to the car and there's this dead lady driving it. All purply and congestive-heart-failure-looking (I'd seen people die of it before, or found them dead too late to do anything, but never one who was driving a car a few seconds earlier) Anyhow, to make a long, grueling story short, we cut the lady out of her seat belt and carry her over to the sidewalk. I ask Dennis if he has his CPR mask and he says "no, do you?" I say "No, but I have dibs on compressions!" So I set about breaking all this lady's ribs. Good compressions break ribs. So we are trying to convince dispatch to hurry up the am-boo-lance cause we're getting tired, and finally the hose haulers show up and take over. They cut the lady naked like they like to do and hook her up to the monitor and she's flatline. The Captain asks me if I broke her ribs and I say "yeah, a bunch of them anyhow" and he says "good, otherwise you were wasting your time" Seemed kind of cold, but made me feel better anyhow. So they zap her a few time and she gets rythm and off they go to the ER. Anyhow, she recovered without brain damage cause me and my pard knew CPR. Good for you, Cora
 sunshine 2 #19 February 8, 2005 QuoteSo true!!!!
