skymedic 0 #1 February 3, 2005 Well to make along story short. I had enough of our desktop winblows machine. So this morning Anne and I trudged over to the Apple Store and got our selves a shiney new iMac. it's purdy for sure and is packed with cool stuff. we got iLife 05 too. Garage band is soooo neat. anyway....it's been a good day. now if I can figure out my airport express wireless mumbo jumbo. My DSL connections works great if it is plugged into the back of puter. but just wont talk to the airport express even though I can see my imac is seeing it...but it keeps searching for some ipapp thing or something. I'm gonna give apple a jingle tommorow. GO APPLE!!!!!!!! Just wish we had tiger with the parental controls. Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman.... AggieDave 6 #2 February 3, 2005 So you play that apple game where its a puzzle of the apple logo all mixed up and you have to put it in order? I hope you like that game...not much more out there. (your semi-friendly message from AggieDave, the former Apple guy now anti-mac jokester). Ok, seriously, that's a good machine. Enjoy it. Nightingale 0 #3 February 3, 2005 LOL. I've spent the last two weeks playing World of Warcraft on my mac. Runs better than it does on my PC, that's for certain. And the PC is only 6 months old.

TomAiello 26 #7 February 3, 2005 If the iMac itself is working right, you ought to be able to just run the airport setup assistant and tell it to copy the settings from the iMac.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
freeflydrew 0 #8 February 3, 2005 you should reset the airport from the little hole in the back Go to system preferences, network, show airport, TCP/IP, and make sure it's set to DHCP not (manuallydhcp or manual or anything else) Then run the airport express setup assistant (GO-->UTILITIES-->AIRPORT EXPRESS SET UP ASSISTANT) It should ask you for the type of connection you have, and the user name and password for the dsl service. You can also rename your wireless network and create a WEP password as well as change the password needed to access the airport config utility... Each time you make a setting change on the airport, it will take a minute to process because it has to reset the airport, so anticipate that happening... PM me if you have any ?'s -drew QuoteIf the iMac itself is working right, you ought to be able to just run the airport setup assistant and tell it to copy the settings from the iMac. Nightingale 0 #11 February 3, 2005 Call Apple. That's what that 90 days of tech support is for. I had the same prob with mine, except it wouldn't connect with the ethernet cable. took me about 3 hours of messing with the computer til I figured out where the network settings were at, and then when I told Clownburner about it, he said "why didn't you just call apple?" *smacks self in forehead* I forgot that Apple actually has competent tech support. I'm too used to dealing with windows.
SkydiveMO 0 #12 February 3, 2005 I see someone wants to be cool like me, all you need now are the shorts I guess if Anne's going to be using the computer you are really going to need those parental controls

FallinWoman 1 #14 February 3, 2005 The really nice thing about getting an imac is that now my home computer is compatible with my work...and our daughter's school computers are also macs.... too bad medic's ipod is formatted to a pc!!!! From Apple knowledge base article 107249... (This article describes journaling on server 10.2, but Apple incorporated journaling into 10.3 for regular client machines too) QuoteJournaling for the Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) file system enhances computer availability and fault resilience, which is especially noteworthy for servers. Journaling protects the integrity of the file system on Xserve and other computers using Mac OS X Server in the event of an unplanned shutdown or power failure. It also helps to maximize the uptime of servers and connected storage devices by expediting repairs to the affected volumes when the system restarts. Journaling is a technique that helps protect the integrity of the Mac OS Extended file systems on Mac OS X volumes. It both prevents a disk from getting into an inconsistent state and expedites disk repair if the server fails. When you enable journaling on a disk, a continuous record of changes to files on the disk is maintained in the journal. If your computer stops because of a power failure or some other issue, the journal is used to restore the disk to a known-good state when the server restarts. With journaling turned on, the file system logs transactions as they occur. If the server fails in the middle of an operation, the file system can "replay" the information in its log and complete the operation when the server restarts. Although you may experience loss of user data that was buffered at the time of the failure, the file system is returned to a consistent state. In addition, restarting the computer is much faster. Always remember to back up your data as frequently as necessary.
