Who/how many people would be interested in a skydive "recorder"

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of building a skydiving recorder. A device you could wear on you that would record your velocity, gps coords, alitude and orientation. Then, the idea being you'd plug it into your computer and could see a "3d" representation of your dive. This would actually work for just about any sport.

I'm also interested in other devices with (similar) functionality. I've only made a few skydives, so I'm not aware of every feature that an experienced skydiver would want.

as mentioned above, there are gps units that can record all that, then you can use paralog software to download the data and have it spit out a..... some sort of file that google earth will open and show your track in 3 dimensions! very cool. and geeky! there are threads on it here somewhere with some example tracks to look at.

what would be cool is a device with a heads up display that could show you an optimal path to your landing point. that way, we wouldn't have to think at all, until the batteries all went dead.

I'd like a heads-up display of my speed. When I do head-down speed dives, I sometimes think I'm setting a blistering pace, only to find out when I get to the ground that my Pro-tracks shows just a ho-hum speed. So I'd like a real-time display inside my goggles, that can be read without altering my head position, and that would allow me to dynamically tune my body position and see instantaneously what effect it has on my dive speed.
