DrunkMonkey 0 #1 February 8, 2005 If your Car CD Player has RCA inputs on the back, is it possible to just wire in one's laptop PC and pipe the music into the car stereo via the headphone jack?

mr2mk1g 10 #3 February 8, 2005 Yes - so long as they're inputs... and so long as you have a way of selecting those inputs without the head unit wanting to find an auto changer or something. eg a sony head unit with auto change control won't allow you to select that input unless it has an auto changer pluged into it. Other models/brands may allow it however so fiddle with your head unit.
AggieDave 6 #4 February 8, 2005 Another neat trick is one of those old tape deck CD player adapters with the headphone jack (if you still have a tape deck). Works like a champ, you can plug anything into it.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Derekbox 0 #5 February 8, 2005 back in the day I had a system in my ride. Some nice people liberated a couple of my amps and my head unit. They managed to miss my main amp though, I did a simple rewire, and now I am piping music directly from my Ipod to the amp. Just had to wire the amp turn on to the old stereo harness so the amp turns on and off with the car. Its real nifty.
ChasingBlueSky 0 #6 February 8, 2005 QuoteYes. What he said, but don't forget that your battery will drain quick. You will want to get a converter to power your laptop....but the amount you spend on that you could get a nice solid state flash mp3 player. Check out the smaller iRiver flash players._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... DrunkMonkey 0 #7 February 8, 2005 Thanks all. I'm basically looking for something for road trips. I figure a $20 power converter and a $20 FM transmitter for the laptop will be the cleanest and easiest way to do a makeshift iPod.

It does ok on the expressway about 10 miles away from big towns. Even then the sound is sub-par (even for mp3). I've decided to find a head unit I like that has front and back inputs._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... ypelchat 0 #9 February 9, 2005 I recommend the CCrane FM transmitter (with the power mod). Awesome! http://www.ccrane.com/fm-transmitter.aspx Here's the (very simple) power mod for the CCrane FM transmitter. http://www.xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=3257&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=5800229fefc44c8329d6e119b2d54cab I think the CCrane is the best and most affordable (unless you're willing to spend +++$$$$ bucks) FM transmitter available today. Wanna download the CCrane user's manual? Here it is:http://www.ccrane.com/knowledgebase/Downloads/FMTransmitterManual.pdf Yves.
