I TOTALLY agree!!!

I'm not the person I was back then. Those are times I would rather not rehash. :S

I am a MUCH better person now and prefer to hang with my new friends here at dz.com.

What I would like to know is how all of you old farts remember this stuff...

I can't remember my elementary school's name, but I can remember past that, but it helped that I lived in the same town since elementary school so the names occured more then a few times in normal conversation to help drive it into my memory.

I went back home after getitng out of basic training... and even though I had only been out of HS for just 18 months I was already so different that the addage " you can never go back" really did apply.

When I was planning for my 25th HS reunion I was on the reunion committee. I contacted some of my old friends from HS.. SOME of them still had the very same phone numbers they had had in HS. Some had bought their parents homesand had built a family where they had grown up years before. Several off them still reveled in their accomplishments in HS.... and had never really moved on or accomplished anything other than existence.
Many of my girlfriends from HS had married within a few months of graduation and were in failed marriages. They had never gone on to college and were now wondering about all those promises but had learned to cope and had gotten the skills to support their children by themselves. Others were still with their HS sweethearts or with others they had met in college or at work and who had decided to actually build a life and stay together and WORK on a lasting marriage rather than trading their wives in for trophy wives.

A couple former classmates went to play in the South East Asian WarGames and did not return. A few others did make it back but left their youth and their sanity over there. Most had come home and had built lives and moved on with life but with the dark memories hidden and rarely brought out for introspection.

Others did not make it thru the drugs of the 60's ,70's and 80's and were no longer with us. Others had succumed to disease over the years.

Most of us are still here, some have done better than others. We have medical professionals, lawyers, IT professionals, business people, factory workers, homemakers... a microcosm of American life. But all of us have lived. Some have lived up to their potential and others have not. This is life and I would not trade it for anything. But going back there is a waste of my time. I will just continue on with my second childhood and revel in the new friends I have in my life.
