Feeblemind 1 #1 February 11, 2005 I am so damn mad right now!!! I have a buddy over in frica in the military. From his letters it is the hottest inhabibitable place on the planet (temp in the 140's with 98% humidity). Well 2 weeks before Christmas My fire buddys and I shipped him a 45 lb box with all kinds of stuff in it: 1) Apple martini's disquised in scope bottles 2) Adult viewing material 3) The matrix 10 DVD Set 4) Trail mix and cookies 5) etc etc etc The damn post office lost the frigging box!!!! Since it was going internationally to an APO it was not insurable so I am out over $300 bucks personally plus all the other stuff my FD brothers/sister added to the box. Is there no accountability in the world!!! I don't know what to do! I just paid for AFF and ordered my gear so I am UBAH broke. I might (key word there) get my shipiing fees bag (whoopie friggin' do) Okay rant over, Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
freeflir29 0 #2 February 11, 2005 Don't go crazy just yet. I have seen things become "Lost" in the military postal system before. They always told me to not even start looking until it has been "lost" for at least 30 days. Hopefully it will turn up.

I sent it two weeks before Christmas, it should have been there 45 days ago. I mean good grief I coulda tossed it in a canoe and paddled there by now!!! As to the package, you should have simply insured it at the post office. Postal insurance is really cheap.

freeflir29 0 #9 February 11, 2005 Quoteit should have been there 45 days ago. So you are really just getting into the range where the military ACTUALLY thinks it's lost too. QuoteI coulda tossed it in a canoe and paddled there by now!!! Oh........you do work for the military postal system. I bought a rig from a friend. He was in Hawaii and shipped it through the postal system. Why......I have NO idea. Anyway.......after 30 days went by I started getting a bit anxious. He kept emailing me telling me it was on it's way. I was pacing up and down the hall every day when I would get home and it had still not arrived. I think it took them close to 40 to actually deliver it to my house. Rediculous!

I spoke to a Ranger that just returned from Iraq and he said summer days in the 140's were common!! As far as the insurance the frigging post office would not let me insure it. It's a screwed deal due to the fact it is going to an APO then handled by contracted private aircargo companies for military shipping. The biggest line of bullshit I ever heard. Most likely someone was not honest with me. Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

SkyDaemon 0 #13 February 11, 2005 I feel for you man... I had a canopy sent via USPS and I learned all about the wonders of the postal service. Packages are entirely untrackable, there's no guarantees as to when the item will arrive, and trying to get information from the post office is like pulling teeth. FedEx, UPS, and DHL all do a really good job of delivering packages at a reasonable price. I've had bad experiences in the past with USPS, but I am curious how they 'lost' a 45lb box :-( FWIW, it's the thought that counts :-) -=Raistlinfind / -name jumpers -print; cat jumpers $USER > manifest; cd /dev/airplane; more altitude; make jump; cd /pub; more beer;
