bertusgeert 1 #1 February 10, 2005 Take all the people you know, have known, have known about, then compare yourself intelectually to them. The dumbest person you know is a 0.00001 and the smartest is 100. Where do you rank yourself and why? (Based in intellegence, wisdom, insight, intellect.) Just wondering... --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
livendive 8 #2 February 10, 2005 From a strict intelligence standpoint, I'm way up there...in the top 2 in any average thousand people. When you add in wisdom and insight though, my stock drops off like crazy. For a pretty smart guy, I do some stupid shit! If the scale runs from 0.00001-to 100, I'd probably rank myself around 83.14159. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" lawrocket 3 #9 February 10, 2005 I used to think I was pretty smart. IQ measured in the 140's by the neurologist. But then I went to law school, and the intellectual firepower there was simply astounding. I'd rate myself in the lower 60's... My wife is hotter than your wife. It's all bull though, IQ is not an indicator of any use. Someone with a 200 IQ can become an alcoholic and die in the gutter, while a drooling sub-moron can become president. Did I say that? Shit, now this is going to get sent to SC. Seems to me that people don't like the IQ indication. I see at simply as an indication of intellect, not what your intellect actually is. It think it is somewhat valid. The reason I asked is because it seems to me that people like to think they are smarter than they are. I was raised by a mother who always told me how smart I am and that I am "special". (sometimes I think she meant special in a different way though). This has developed into a inflated self-concept, judging myself higher than others when I am really not that great at all. But I recently realized something. I used to be pissed when others are smarter than me, I don't want to be insignificant. But...I realized I would rather have others smarter than me, to some extent, because then I would always have a vast amount of thing to read and learn, which is alwys fun. I learned to like learning more than actually just having the knowledge. Anyhow...just my thoughts for today... --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
 metalslug 36 #21 February 10, 2005 I always get a chuckle out of this kind of question... It's a lot harder to recognise genius than it is to recognise stupidity. A wristwatch cannot measure the precision of an atomic clock, but the atomic clock can measure the wristwatch. There are a lot of wristwatches that believe they are atomic clocks. This is why most people we know appear to be less smart than ourselves. One must consider that an "IQ" score of 100 is the average of a geographical region of only the people that have been tested, not of the entire population. So, logicaly, for every few tested people that score above 100, there should likewise be a few tested people that score below 100. But, have you ever met a person who has actualy admitted to a low score ? Neither have I, but they're out there.
