mailin 0 #1 February 13, 2005 I've read the book, loved it. Even wrote an 11 page paper comparing it to world war 2... ... but the movie (which is on UPN atm) continues to freak me out [crazy,] Seen the movie? Read the book? Your thoughts? jumpergirl 0 #3 February 13, 2005 I know what you mean. I had to read the book in Senior English and loved it. But when we watched the movie it totally freaked me out. I still haven't seen it again and doubt I ever will.
AggieDave 6 #4 February 13, 2005 I've read it a few times, never saw a movie that truely did it justice, though. Good book, lots of parallels in various parts of life.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
mailin 0 #5 February 13, 2005 QuoteGood book, lots of parallels in various parts of life. Yep, thats why writing papers on that very subject write so easily... I like my mind to visualize stuff for me which is probably why I enjoyed the book and not the movie... but I'm truely captivated by it and can't stop watching... I'm going to regret watching this later... JenArianna Frances

SpeedRacer 1 #17 February 14, 2005 read the book a loong time ago. Interesting note: Way back when the Israelites were running around, some of the neighboring tribes worshipped a god named Baal. if you were a worshipper of Baal & you really wanted Baal's blessing, you would immolate your first born child as a sacrifice. (I think it was the Canaanites...and the word "Baal" in their language just means "god" or "Lord") Anyway, the Isrealites, who worshipped Yahweh, had a derogatory term for what was in their view, a false god: Baal-ze-bub (Balzebub) Which means "Lord-of-the-Flies". Movie Database: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100054/ I think the original post was referring to the old version of the movie, not the 1990 remake. But I just looked up the old one (1963) and it wasn't Drew Carey. Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------
