Old Photographs and Feeling Old!

Recommended Posts

When I moved to California four years ago, I put all my old photos in a box and left them in storage at my mom's house... so I hadn't seen any of them since then (other than the few I had on my computer). My mom recently brought that box to me and I just put it away without looking at them. But last night I got the box out and started looking through all the old photos... It was so much fun to look back through all these memories of my life (and I only got about halfway through the box), but then I woke up this morning feeling so freakin' OLD! I'm only 33, but looking at those photos made me want to be 21 again! :( At least I'm wiser now (supposedly)... but I think I feel a midlife crisis coming on! :o Somebody please remind me how great it is to be older and wiser! B|:D

Keely, relax...it's great to be our age (almost 34 for me, also). :)
Twenties can be fun, but life just seems to have more and more amazing opportunities as you get older, wiser, happier, hornier. (It's so true about women in their 30's and our sex drives! ~) I am far more happy and interesting as a person today than when I was 23. If you honestly think about it, you probably also feel the same way about yourself. Experience tends to be worth the extra laugh lines and white hair (talking about myself :S). Age is just a number, remember? Besides, we can always have our crazy nights of acting like we are in our twenties without all the insecurities or confusion of real people in their twenties. :P

I'm only 23...but I had a good girlfriend of mine tell me something the other day that really made me smile and actually look forward to being in my 30's..

"Amanda, just wait until you are 30. You will love yourself and life in general so much more and will get a better understanding on what things are really about. Life gets easier for us women..it just gets harder for the guys."

LOL, she was referring to how you learn about being dependent more so on yourself, and no one else. That guys, as women age, must respect them more because they do not put up with as much crap as us youngsters do. She really made me see that I need to start striving towards personal happiness.

I really do look up to women who have gone through the things in life that I am just now experiencing.

You should be happy that you are a strong woman. And you know what, 30's are not old. Not by far girl. You are still young, beautiful..and...FULL OF LIFE. :)

What about us men turning 38 this year? I'm so close to 40 I can swear AARP has me flagged on their mailing list. :S

Thanks, Rosa... You're right, I do think I'm a more happy and interesting person today than I was at 21 (not that there is anything wrong with 21-year-olds!)... I think I was having a "shallow" moment of wishing I looked that young again (especially when wearing a bikini). ;) The funny thing is that I often get annoyed if people think I'm a lot younger than I am - mostly because it causes them to treat me like I am younger, which can be insulting at times.

I agree... though I think it's from having more experience, and therefore knowing how to do it better (which makes it even more enjoyable). ;)

Actually, I am just glad that I have so many pleasant memories to look back on (a lot that I had forgotten about until I was looking at those pictures)... When I moved away from Austin, I think that I was feeling overwhelmed with so many unpleasant memories that I had forgotten about all the good ones... but when I really think about it, the good times have definitely outweighed the bad... And I feel lucky to be able to say that! I wish the same for everyone else... :)

And as a bonus, the best thing about turning 40 is, you no longer need to worry about premature heart attack.;)

I COMPLETELY AGREE!!! Gosh, maybe you can now go into my sillyTHREAD and make me feel better about getting older. WTH happened to me today? I went from being confident and happy about my age, to feeling like an old hag within a few hours! :S
