Kurupee, where are you?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if Kurupee has gone out of business or if they are out for a while? My g/f made an order about 3 weeks ago. We both have e-mailed and no reply after they got payment. >:( I tried to call the other day and I got an answering machine. I left a message and all the contact info. I tried back the next morning and it said that their voicemail box was full. Any ideas? Has anyone ever had problems with these folks before?[:/]

The same happened to me when I ordered mine...I didn't hear from them after payment or after trying to get in touch with them. 5 weeks after the order, my suit showed up out of the blue. It did take a few days to get through customs, I believe the shipping took just over a week. I hope everything goes well for your g/f and she gets her suit. But, yeah, this seems to be something that happens every once and a while with them.

I'll recommend it again. Stop doing business with fly by night suit manufacturers and trunk dealers. Find those that have established themselves in the business for a bit.

If they are a smaller venture they will have established themselves localy and gained a reputation first.

You will be pleased by the service and results.

I know other people have had problems but i have to give credit - my suit came in 3 weeks, perfect fit, and have been jumping it a year now and its still going strong. Someone else in the same order had one that wasn't so good, so they made him a new one and let him keep the old one.

But generally i have to echo what jp said. Go with someone local - easier comeback if it all goes wrong.

I disagree with this post almost entirely.

And for the record I own a completely custom Kurupee suit, anyone at SDD or SDA probably knows it, even if they don't know me ;)

Kurupee is cheap. Period. I took a suit, literally 100% custom from the pattern up, for $260 shipped. If you buy stock, they are closer to $159. I see no reason why I should pay $300+ for a tony or firefly suit. If you work in your suit of have durability concerns, I have no idea, but my suit works fine for me.

These guys are in S. AMerica and English is their second language. I found the communication a little difficult, but they were excellent if a but slow to call. Despite that, my suit went from design to arrival in under 4 weeks....at the time, firefly was something like 8-12.

My only caveat would be to somethings should be doublestitched that are not. Again, I got a completely unique pattern, so it is a bit odd. But, in my opinion...pay your rigger $10 to stitch and weak points and you still have under $200 and 4 weeks invested in a jumpsuit.
Maybe others have had their own experience. Maybe you need a kevlar suit. I don't...and I am happy with my Kurupee.

As diablopilot stated it is best to go with a known reputable company, rather than save a few bucks. I have bought suits from Tony suit and Firefly and thought the quality was outstanding (fit and looks were perfect). A few years back I decided to give Kurpee a try back when the suits cost $130 for a custom. What a mistake, first it got lost in shipping for a month (plus I had a hard time getting them to return my calls) and when I got it the material was thin the sewing was not nearly the quality found on my other suits and it fit terribly. I never wore it since it just turnout terrible but I did sell it to someone else.

Ferret, whats up dude. Hope you are likin the shades.B| As for your experience, there is an exception to every rule. I have found several people that are happy with thier suits from Kurupee. Unfortunatlely, the majority that I have talked to that own/have owned a Kurupee suit, are very displeased with the service and quality.

I have to agree with you that if you custom designed your suit and it only cost you $260, that is a good deal on the details if there are many. In fact that is about half of what I am spending for an extremely custom suit from Ouragan Suits. Do I want to spend that much cash on a suit? Hell no! But I also want it to be the best that there is, as with all of my gear.

Its all about expectations and use. I will be using my suit for every jump, except for the satanic hot enviornments like Byron and such. Camera, FF, Bigway Vert flying, and swooping. I need a suit that will feel as it is a part of me, and extention of my passion if you will. It has to exemplify my attitude, desires and ambitions, and on top of that be so comfortable and reliable that it is part of my jump, skills and ability.

I tend to be a tad more cerebral about my approach to flying than most. Mostly I keep my neuroticness in my own head, but I am compelled to share with you why I feel the way that I do about Kurupee vs. Ouragan Suits.

Cheers bro, and call me if you need some lenses or somethin.

B.

I love my Kurupee suit. They gave me a great deal on a skysurfing suit (freefly jacket, one pair of skysurfing pants, and one pair of freefly pants - all custom - $300). I've heard some of their older stuff was a little shoddy, but all of the stuff I've seen from them recently looks good, and I ask everyone I see with a Kurupee suit how happy they are, and I can't recall any complaints about their recent work. If you check out the L.A.S.T. website, it's the red and blue jumpsuit I'm always wearing.
I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. I have bachelor's in kicking ass and taking names.
