who else is looking for a new job and f***ing frustrated???

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

Well, I've just moved to London, England from Canada.

It's such a huge change.. I've quit my job as an aircraft mechanic in the military. I was working there for 7 years, and I don't feel especially qualified or enthusiastic with regards to starting in a totally different field. I mean, I have transferable skills, and a degree in adition to my work experience.. But it's the "starting from scratch" that is scaring the shit out of me.

I'm basically just whining here, but I'd love to know that there are other people out there looking for work, like me..

I resigned a month ago from my company 'cause I realised that I was doing so much more than I was initially employed to do, and I hated all the additional roles I had to perform.
So I am starting my own company focusing on the core role that I enjoy and am good at.
Now I don't feel so stupid and inadequate.

But it is way scary, I don't know where my next pay check is coming from, but everything will happen if you work hard and stay positive.

Oh, and network, tell people what you are up to....
They have friends who have friends and if they know what you are looking for, you get referrals.

Good Luck!

Yeah, networking makes sense.. I'm just new to living in a big city, and used to just hoping in my car to get everywhere--not really an option here, since my car's still in Canada, and driving in London is a nightmare anyway.

And I don't know anyone!!! I just heard that there is a group of skydivers here who go out for drinks once in a while; no doubt this will help--hey, anything is possible with a sufficient amount of beer!!!

Me!

I have an interview Wed with a glass coating company, but that's the only lead I've gotten.

It would really suck to have spent all this time (and energy!) in school just to flip burgers... [:/]

Hello everyone,
I recently subscribed to PC Magazine and have been receiving them rather irregularly. Today I got two at a time and the older one looks like someone has already read it. :( It could quite possibly be that NU mail is really slow or my magazine could be taking a detour to someone else before arriving in my box.

If you, or someone you know, have been tempted to borrow it before I get to read it, please don't. If anyone would like to read it, after I'm finished, please let me know. I'm happy to share. :)

Have a good weekend!

Yup, me too... Am using the computer at the radio school after burning demo CD's to send out. They let former students use the facilities here. Also, the place I had been working at allows me to use their stuff too.

The place was sold and the new owners can't use me. Besides, the guy I had been working for (State Senator Chip Rogers) had been paying us quite generously. Even if the new guys wanted to hire me, they couldn't pay me what I had been making, which was a lot for a small-market station but is not nearly as much as most people in their late 40's earn.

Am shopping my demo to several large stations in the Atlanta area. I've got a nice talk-radio demo aimed at WGST, where I'd love to go up against Neal Boortz. (I wouldn't win, but it'd be fun anyway...) Also some unique news stories which would really spice up a music station, but would never fly at a standard politically-correct news operation. I've also written over 100 commercial scripts, etc. SOMEBODY cannot wait to hire me, but the burden is on me to prove it.

Meanwhile, I guess I won't be making the Dublin boogie again this year. Sigh. Oh well, I'm sure there are kids in Africa who feel sorry for me.

Best of luck to you. Looking forward to the victory reports.

Cheers,

Jon S.

Isn't that always the way? They make you wait until you feel desperate and you're prepared to jump on anything.. *Then* the calls come pouring in and you can't decide which one you want!!! Hopefully this will be the case for me, and the calls won't arrive after I've already accepted a crap job in my doom phase.. :P

It's so funny.. I kinda thought I wouldn't be in this position.. Moving to live with some guy.. Dropping a very secure (though highly unpleasant) job.. Yuk. Makes me want to barf. My biggest goal at the moment is to MAKE MORE MONEY than my boyfriend!!! Then when I get home from a hard day's work, I can expect to sit my ass down in front of the TV, whilst he brings me a cold beer--and supper should be on the table when I arrive!!! ;)

YES! I know what you mean, i've been working in one field for a few years now, have experience but want to change my job to something I am really interested in. I'm doing a degree to help me along but it's near impossible to get a job! Everyone i speak to wont give me an entry level position because i have too much experience in other fields, they think it would be unfair or i'd get bored... but they wont give me a midweight position either because i have no experience in THAT specific field... ARGH! so frustrating, i feel like rewriting my CV to say i've done nothing at all, maybe then they'd give me a job! [:/]:D

anyways, good luck, keep at it, you'll get there soon enough :)

Christ!!

This city is so confusing! I just spent an obscene amount of time getting to the nearest train station, where they leave free magazines for jobhunters.. A mere 10 minute walk away--unless of course you hang a left instead of a right, and then get directions from people who don't have a clue where you're trying to go.. I ended up thinking "right, fuck it.. I know the station is somwhere in that direction.. Screw the road names, I'm heading over there.." 10 minutes later (not 35 as everyone was trying to tell me) I was there. 2 hours well wasted [:/] Well, at least this magazine is full of job adverts..

Perhaps I should call up this one:
"Attractive ladies for high class escorting service. Under 26 years old ideally. Can make up to £1000 per night." Hmmm.. dunno.. sounds a little dodgy to me!!
