Canseco and Baseball Roids!

Recommended Posts

I find myself pretty fascinated by the press surrounding Jose Canseco's tell-all about steroid use in Major League Baseball. Of course, this is nothign new. Caminiti did a tell all about it in Sports Illustrated a couple of years ago.

Canseco ain't the nicest guy. Many believe he can't be trusted. But, it's fairly commonly known by folks around the sport (I've had a few connected friends in the past) that juice is just a part of baseball. One of my firends said that probably 75 percent of the minor league guys use steroids, because guys who probably wouldn't are at a disadvantage and have to use to compete.

I personally believe that about 3/4 of what Canseco says. Canseco and McGwure were accused of jucing back in the late 80's. With what is coming out now about Giambi, Bonds, and all these other guys, the circumstantial evidence looks pretty damning.

I think I'll be watching the legal news for information about lawsuits filed by McGwire, Pudge Rodriguez, Rapfael Palmeiro and others. (look at Palmeiro's numbers - 16 homes runs combined in 1988 and 89. Within four years up to the 30's and 40's in HR's per year).

If they don't file lawsuits, it may be an admission on their parts by omission.

Can"psyco" is in real need of money, he's broke. He's also got a grudge againt the league. He thinks the league did him wrong and they owe him.

Not sure if he was coached, counceled or he is an idiot. But if what he's saying isn't true then he's going to be in a world of shit soon.

I believe some of what he's saying. Roid use is and has been a problem in baseball. The commisioner knew about it back in the late 90's with the home run chase between Sosa and McGwire. He was imformed back then about roids running rampant. His "off the record" answer was, tell that to the Players Union, they've got me under a barrel. They won't agree with testing so I cannot force them to testing. The BAseball Players Union is one of the strongest and largest unions in the states. They are the 800lb gorrilla when it comes to making policy in Major League Baseball..

Can"psyco" is looking for cash and lots of it. Sue him, just gives him much more publicity. He's hocking a book and looking for controversy. He's got plenty now with Giambi in the mix with his on the stand tell-all. This is just starting and will be alot bigger before it's over.

MLB has a problem to deal with too.. When and were do you go back to and delete or asteric the records? Can you imagine a record book in 10 years with all the ***** next to the records set in the 90's and 2000's

Sad day in MLB.

You think it's just in MLB?
:S

We know all about roids in the NFL and other major sports. But most of the users aren't out flaunting major records or breaking records set by people we KNOW weren't using enhancing drugs.

C'mon Babe Ruths roid was whiskey and women. But he still set some awesome records!

edit:

To expand some. This will probably lead to other leagues taking a long hard look at the use of steroids also. MLB is just getting hit hard because of it's huge use of stats. Everything in the game is a stat and players worth is based on stats. So any player who can bump his worth and make more money using enhancing drugs is going to try and sneak under the fence.

NFL was raging den of drug use in the 70-80's. Some players would come in an hour before a game just to get juiced up so they could play with major injuries. Hell it still goes on today, just not to the extent is used to.

This guy agrees with you. A picture's worth a thousand shots.
Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

I saw a program on ESPN, a couple weeks ago, about a guy (name slips my mind right now) in the Bay area who has come-out to name, names of athletes who he has supplied performance enhancing drugs to. Some of the drugs he mentioned cannot be detected by any of the tests in use today. The names he mentions and tells of 'being present' and instructing on how to inject them, come from all major sports as well as the Olympics. I think, MLB has known about it but hasn't done much about it. What with the McGwire - Sosa home run race hell, that puts fannies in stadium seats.
