jheadley 0 #1 February 15, 2005 Say I've got a DVD or an MPEG movie, and I want to capture still pictures from it. How do I do that? I've tried to pause the video, take a screen shot, and then paste it into MS paint, but the video square just shows up black. Also, can anyone suggest a good video editing program? Free, perhaps
pilotdave 0 #2 February 15, 2005 In windows media player, you need to shut off video overlays before you can take a screenshot. I don't have it open, but its in the options somewhere... maybe under performace, then hit advanced (or maybe "hardware") I think. I have an older version at work that looks totally different. It can be done in quicktime too. I don't know exactly how it works, but video overlays allows your video card to process and display the video separately from your computer's processor. So windows just gives it a blank spot on the screen to put it. Dave
meridianjumper 0 #3 February 15, 2005 You will need some kind of video editing software in order to capture the video shots like that. As for free video editing software, there are not any that I can think of. Unless it comes with your video camera. But those are really cheesy pieces of software. I prefer Adobe Premier but that is not a very cheap piece of software. If you are looking for something that is quick, easy and cheap, check out Pinnacle Systems Studio. I use that software all the time for my quicky videos. Very cool software. Lots of cool fades and wipes. http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ Blue Skies, Jeremy
