Student Jumpsuit

Recommended Posts

I am always having trouble with finding a jumpsuit that fits at my DZ. I end up wearing something huge or a tandem suit. Anyway, I got a NICE bonus at work and I wanted to use some of it on a jumpsuit. I originally was going to get something used. Nothing special, just something that fits. However, I am still having trouble finding something my size. So I figured I would treat myself to something nice. I have the money for my jumps put aside anyway. With that being said, I have decided on the Tonysuit Pit Special. There are different fabric options that I have been trying to do my research on. My main question is...what fabric should I use for my Body Front? The standard is Nylon but I know that is "slick and fast." As a student, what fabrics should I do? I want something I can use for a while too. Obviously its too early to know what I'll end up doing. Thoughts?

One of the jumpsuit's jobs is to help adjust your fall rate so you fall at the same speed as other jumpers. You'll need to ask your instructors what you need in terms of fit and fabrics to help you out. Generally if you're very small and light, you'll want a tighter, slicker suit. If you're big, you'll want a looser suit and heavier fabrics. Print out a jumpsuit order form and bring it to the DZ so you can go over it with your instructors.

What Dave said is spot on. I just ordered my first RW suit...a pit special by Tony suits and I opted for 'vented booties'. That probably wasnt that great of an idea because vented booties from what I hear are for larger jumpers trying to slow down their fallrate. I hear that fabrics like cordura are more for the larger guys and fabrics like spandex are more for the smaller jumpers. All in all I like the suit but I wish I wouldnt have ordered the vented booties because now I REALLY fall slow. And turn fast as hell...and now I track like iron man on steriods. Which is actually pretty frickin sweet if you ask me but I might have to get my mom (a seamstress) to sew on a patch over the vents close to the booties.

But get with your instructors before you order it and they will guide you in the right direction.

Dave-
Your from CT? I'm hoping to head out to your home DZ once I get to my solos! Right now I am already 5 jumps in to my IAF at Skydive the Ranch.

A Cordura butt (and maybe kness) probably wouldn't hurt. I just ass slid across asphalt Sunday afternoon and it didn't even rip. I was really surprised.

I think it was worth the extra $30 bucks or whatever to have saved a $300 jumpsuit.

;)

Always be kinder than you feel.
